The last installment of The Insider Report covered some ground in terms of USC’s efforts in recruiting the linebacker position for 2018.
Aside from priority target Channing Tindall (which appears to be primarily a USC/Georgia battle) and Dax Hollifield (who we expect to land elsewhere), there is another name that remains on the Gamecocks’ board. Florida State commitment Rosendo Louis is a prospect that the Gamecocks led for at one point during the process. Even then, we noted not to expect his recruitment to be totally over until signing day. Louis and the South Carolina staff are still communicating, and an official visit could eventually be put on the books. As all of our readers are well aware, South Carolina’s numbers are exceptionally tight right now in this class. Louis does remain a prospect that we continue to track.
Speaking of Tindall, the expectation as of now is that he will be in Columbia on Saturday for the Vanderbilt game to take another unofficial visit.
Will Muschamp recently noted that South Carolina’s staff is generally going to stay inside its recruiting footprint to sign prospects, that being the states of South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida and Georgia. Connections up north or to states like Texas have, and will in the future, lead to offers or visits from prospects to those states, but it will not be a normal occurrence for the Gamecocks to pull players rom outside the talent-rich geographical area surrounding it. There is one spot in which Muschamp noted USC can recruit nationally on a regular basis, and that is quarterback. While the Gamecocks have offered a pair from the state of North Carolina in Garrett Shrader and Sam Howell, there is one from California that holds a tender as well. 2019 offered quarterback Ryan Hilinski recently told GamecockCentral.com that he’s planning to make a visit to Columbia at some point after his junior season wraps, likely in December.
Georgia recently sent defensive line coach Tray Scott to scout USC commitment Kingsley Enagbare’s high school game. I’ve been told that the Dawgs have kept in contact with Enagbare, who was a priority for Georgia prior to his USC commitment, but that he and his family appear quite solid to the Gamecocks right now.
We’ve documented a pair of forthcoming visits from an FSU and a Florida commitment this weekend in Asante Samuel, Jr. and Divaad Wilson, respectively. To expand a bit on a question I’ve been asked in relation to this topic, I don’t believe bringing in either is any type of reflection on the Gamecock staff’s feelings on Jaycee Horn. This staff is always one that keeps recruiting and continually has irons in the fire. USC can bring both in and see how things progress.
A few Gamecock commitments are slated to be on campus to watch the Vanderbilt game on Saturday: Dakereon Joyner, Darius Rush, Wyatt Campbell, and Hank Manos.
Northwestern 2019 wide receiver Jamario Holley is a talented prospect that South Carolina has long liked, and he’ll be visiting on Saturday as well. Holley has some work to do in order to become a qualifier, but is someone that USC will likely stick with in to the future as far as recruiting and monitoring him.
Four-star offensive tackle target Dylan Wonnum also projects to be in town with family for Saturday’s game, as does Virginia tight end James Mitchell.
We’ve rounded up a new in-state name to watch in recruiting circles, that being York 2019 wide receiver La’Daruis Allison. The junior pass-catcher carries an early offer from Indiana and is under evaluation by the South Carolina staff. Allison will also be on campus this weekend. You can check out some highlight clips of him in action this season below.
