- One of the headline visitors for this weekend’s second junior day event of the year is Rivals100, high four-star running back Cartavious Bigsby out of Georgia.

Will Muschamp was by Callaway High on Tuesday checking in on Bigsby, with offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon and running backs coach Thomas Brown having passed through the halls the previous week on Thursday.

Assistant coach Bobby Bentley did a good job in the early stages of Bigsby’s recruitment in laying a foundation with prospect and family alike, with the torch being passed to Brown once he arrived on staff. Sources connected with the recruitment believe it’s only a positive to have Bentley still on staff and Brown, with his resume, as the potential position coach.

Bigsby seemed set to release a final seven that USC was a lock to make earlier in January, but it did not come to fruition. There’s no doubt that South Carolina, with its wide-open opportunity for early playing time in 2020, is appealing to Bigsby and his family. South Carolina’s staff is hoping to really advance this courtship this weekend, and Bigsby seems to be all ears.

- Miami’s Don Chaney will also be in town on Saturday, and it should not be understated how good a relationship running backs coach Thomas Brown has with Chaney and his father, who of course played college ball at South Carolina.

- I did some further checking on four-star defensive back Jammie Robinson, who now looks to have wrapped up his official visit slate after seeing Kentucky, Auburn, and Tennessee recently. While Robinson has publicly said he’s completely done with visits, we are still hearing there’s a chance that he’s in Columbia this weekend (or if not, next weekend). The fluidity of the situation means we may not know until the day of, once Robinson arrives or does not arrive.

Although some are understandably unsure because of what Robinson has said and his continued visits/talks with other programs, it would be a severe omission on my part if I left out the fact that South Carolina still appears to have some confidence in this situation.

- While in Georgia earlier in the week, Will Muschamp also checked up on new offer Desmond Tisdol, who seemed to have a lean towards playing on the defensive side of the ball when we spoke to him this week. He compared his game to current NFL standout Jamal Adams. Tisdol will also visit USC this week.

- As we documented previously, Muschamp attended the basketball game of Rivals100 defensive lineman Zykevious Walker on Tuesday as well.

- Last Friday, Muschamp was by Gainesville High to do some legwork on Makius Scott, the defensive tackle who will be on campus this weekend.

- Defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson made some local stops in the Midlands on Tuesday. One of them was to Blythewood, where the Bengals have some underclassman prospects that the Gamecock staff has shown interest in to date. USC has hosted 2021 receiver Joshua Burrell on campus before and Tennessee offered earlier this month.

- The school is home to a defensive player that USC is intrigued by; 2020 cornerback Chase Atkinson camped with the Gamecocks this summer and put up some strong testing numbers while in attendance. Will Muschamp plans a stop at the school next week as well.

- Robinson also hit Ridge View, which of course produced current linebacker Damani Staley in the 2017 class.

- The Blazers have several names of interest to USC. From a prospect standpoint, 2022 athlete Miquel Mason played wide receiver and defensive end as a freshman last season and has a chance to be a big-time prospect. South Carolina has already done some legwork on him.

- 2021 running back Dhani Dixon is the son of former Gamecock defender Gerald Dixon.

- 2019 offensive lineman Jalyn Dunbar will be heading the junior college route and is in the process of figuring out if he will attend Hutchinson in Kansas or Georgia Military. The Shrine Bowl selection is someone the South Carolina staff is going to monitor going forward. He’s big, physical, and can move.

- Walyn Napper is one of the state’s best overall athletes whether it’s on the hardwood or on the gridiron. He had a huge senior year in football but will need to sort out which sport he’s going to focus on going forward. If it’s football, he could be the type of guy who goes to a junior college and picks up significant Division I attention, including from USC, down the line. South Carolina’s watching that situation for the future.

Napper put up 8 catches for 152 yards and a touchdown against Westwood during the second meeting between the two teams in 2018.

- Dennis Daley’s brother, Damion Daley, is transferring from Colorado State to Georgia Military and will be monitored by the Gamecock staff as well. USC’s numbers on the offensive line for the 2020 class are fairly squeezed with two committed already, but a junior college lineman is a possibility for the Gamecocks in the cycle.

- I checked with a source in the NFL scouting community about Deebo Samuel and the buzz surrounding his Senior Bowl performance so far this week to try to assess just how far he can go in April’s NFL Draft.

This source said that if Samuel continues his strong week and clocks excellent times at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, that he could sneak as high as into the top 40. Samuel had more of a mid-round (say, fourth or so) immediately after the season but the NFL community is beginning to see what most of us saw around the program for the last several years. The source I spoke with guessed that, if everything falls into place and his medicals check out in Indianapolis, that Samuel could end up being a second round pick.
