Our story with McKie is linked below.

From Glenn Elrod:
McKie is one of the most well-spoken recruits I have talked to. He is mature beyond his years.

The feeling since USC extended an offer to McKie months ago was that he would eventually commit to USC. McKie did visit Murray State and was also high on Wichita State and Memphis, but the opportunity to play for the hometown Gamecocks was too much to pass up. McKie mentioned the proximity to home, his comfort level with the program and the coaches as the reasons he chose the Gamecocks.

As for what type of player he is, I feel that McKie is just starting to showcase his ability. His best basketball days are ahead of him. How soon he develops will be the key for when he is able to contribute at USC. Right now he is a little over 6-foot-4, so he has good size to play on the perimeter. Size at guard is something the new coaching staff is real big on. McKie gets to the foul line often. In fact, the only other player I've seen in the state that gets fouled more is Sindarius Thornwell. McKie can shoot from deep but he isn't anywhere near his dad's level yet. Overall I can see him making an impact by Year 2 and being a potential starter in Years 3-4. He will bring leadership and work ethic to the program immediately.

Earlier update
Glenn Elrod
will have more later, but he has received a text from Justin McKie that says McKie has committed to South Carolina. McKie is the son of all-time leading scorer BJ McKie.

It's the second commitment in a week for Frank Martin, who picked up a commitment from Sindarius Thornwell on Oct. 1.
