I read his comments on this. He needed a challenge. He admired the USMA and what it stands for. He should have seen that college football in general was moving away from a model in which Army could compete at the highest levels - and had been moving away from that model. Of course, he found out the same thing was true down here apparently.He couldn’t turn down the chance to bring Army back to prominence. His autobiography is a good read.
