NC State fan here taking your questions!

Someone said you guys had an effective wildcat package.

I know very little about your team, other than everyone says the d-line is going to be great.

But most of the time running qb's are what kill our defense, not pocket guys.

So:

1) How mobile is your qb? Even if he isn't a guy who pulls it and takes it himself, is he mobile enough to buy time and get a first down on a busted play?

2) We've been gashed by teams like Kentucky running the wildcat (and the same play, over and over). Tell me about your wildcat package.

On a scale from 1-10. How would you rate your Carolina girls compared to ours?

We actually played 2 QBs a good bit last year, with one being a "change of pace" QB (he is our #2 qb who can throw it, but was in to run).

That being said, Ryan Finley is our starting QB and is a good athlete, however far from great. He had about a 30 yard TD run against ECU on a zone read keeper. Definitely mobile enough to extend plays. According to the coaches he added 15 pounds of muscle and was running about a 4.65 40 this summer (could be coaches speak, could be legit. He looked like a 4.8 guy last year). Is he someone you game plan around during the run game? Nope. Is he mobile enough to keep defenses honest? Yes. But he wont beat a team with his legs. Our coaches did say they want to run him more this year and they like QBs running to keep the D honest.

As for the wildcat package, that is so hit or miss. We had some success with it, we had some games where we used it none. I do think our running game will be a little more creative this year because last year we could hand it off to our 1,000 yard back and let him get 3-6 yards a pop. This year, we will need to do a little more creativity in order to have legitimate success on the ground.

How much importance is the NCS fans putting on this game?

Lots. Could vault us to an 8-4, maybe 9-3 type year. With an L, we are looking at 6-6. With Doeren on the hot seat, it was a crucial game for him and the future of this program.

Of course, we could lose this game and still win 8 or 9 games (see UNC a couple years ago)- but it is an important game.

How is your kicker or field goal kicking game? Is it still Kyle Bambard?

Got a Division II grad transfer that should be our starting kicker. His name is Carson Wise and below is a brief bio. It is "his job to lose".

AT CARSON-NEWMAN:

• The Eagles’ starting placekicker for two seasons.

• Career Stats: Connected on 21-31 field goals and was 97-101 on extra points. Tied a school record for points in a game by a kicker with 17 vs. Tusculum. Had a career long of 49 yards.

Missed this one. I have only been to Columbia once (Thursday night opener maybe 2008? Russell Wilson's first game) and I was very impressed. I will be in Charlotte this time so I will definitely form another opinion.

I live on Wrightsville Beach, so nothing really compares to these beach girls. Raleigh/Chapel Hill/ Columbia are all a small notch below.

Is Bamberg still on the team? Or did he transfer out?

He is still on the team, yes. I wouldn't be surprised if he is the kickoff specialist. We had a walk on do that last year, so who knows. We added 3 kickers in the offseason with Wise being on scholarship

What's your score prediction and why?

27-20 USC because I am not a Doeren fan and until he can beat someone decent, that's what I am going with.

That being said, I really like our pieces and our team so I would not be one bit surprised to see a 31-21 NCSU W.

He should have beaten somebody decent up at UPC last year. That missed field goal changed the season for three teams: yours, theirs, and Bama's

Yup and we dropped an INT with about 3.5 minutes to go vs FSU in the end zone (literally hit our safety in the chest with no one around). Catch that and get a first down, we likely beat FSU and Clemson.

We were close, but then we lost to BC, ECU and laid an egg vs Miami. So who knows?

Were you there in 1986 with the funny clock business? If you were, what did you think about it?

As of this writing, is CDD on the hot seat?

Tell me about your coordinators. What packages will they have for us (wildcat/blitz)

Imho, both ncst and usc have the most annoying PA mascot sounds, would you agree? (I enjoy our rooster crow but I know it has to be annoying to opponents/fans.)

When in Raleigh, Sullivans or Vinnies?

TIA

You do any surfing there? Waves better there than here in SC

Right now CDD has a medium seat. RUMOR was if he didn't beat UNC and make it to a bowl last year, he was out. Not confirmed, but that was a rumor.

Our OC is in his 2nd year from Boise State. At Boise State he had a 3,000 yard passer, 1,000 yard RB and WR, so he is multi dimensional. Typically we will have 1 back, 3 WRS and 1 TE in a spread formation. We do line up under center some, but I'd say it's 80/20 out of the gun. Last year he had a 1st year QB (who came from Boise with him) that played well, but not great (pretty sure he was 4th in preseason ACC QB votes). But he has a year under his belt and high expectations. A lot of quick passes to the guys below, with the occasional deep shot to keep the defense honest. I really like most of his game plans, so hopefully he can continue to open up the play book with more experience.

We have some versatile guys in Jaylen Samuel (1st team all ACC) and Nyheim Hines (on preseason ACC teams) that cause mismatches so they line up literally everywhere (RB, TE, slot, out wide). I think we want them to touch the ball 25x combined.

On D- it's honestly pretty vanilla, very gap controlled and "do your job" type. I would assume we are going to try to win with our front 4 and give as much help to our secondary as possible. Throw in the occasional A gap blitz and a corner blitz, but it's a defense built more on execution than creativity. We have the front 7 to make that happen, but will our secondary stand up?

Sullivan's (although Angus Barn is my favorite) and yes, the wolf howl gets old after the 15th time, aka before kickoff.

I hope you guys lose a close one in CLT and win the rest of'em. Good luck.

Not anymore. I did some years ago, but I was never any good. Good workout and fun to go out there, but I was always so meh at it.

Am still going at 49. As a diabetic it's great exercise. Moving to Melbourne Fl soon. Even better waves. Appreciate you coming here and answering questions. Wish all fans of other teams acted this way but we know that won't happen

I was actually born in west palm beach, lived in Melbourne for a few years, but moved to NC when I was in elementary school. Great place from when I went back (YEARS ago). Here's to civil convo, it's a breath of fresh air.

Have family in Ft Lauderdale. Love visiting but little too busy for me. Melbourne a slower pace. Lived in Raleigh for 6 years when I got out of service. Nice place but missed the beach. Been in Myrtle Beach area for 35 years other than time in service. Ready for a change

Being honest, of course I want to see them get the hammer but right now I'm in the "I'll believe it when I see it" phase. Wake me when it's over

I agree with you a 100% on that issue. My question then becomes, if the holes get what amounts to a slap on the wrist, what happens to the credibility of the NCAA?

Excellent point on the last part, who knows. I think there has been so much stuff made public they can't slap them on the wrist. But then again, UNC (bball) is a money maker sooo who knows

Missed this. And honestly have no idea what this is. I was born in '88 and my dad is an Ole Miss graduate (i know, i know) so my NC State knowledge is lacking before like 1995, unless it is the big time things
