@ClemDent Even App State cancelled their game, and they are farther away than you.

And you're not protesting enough. To hold a football game while other South Carolinians are fighting to save people from the effects of a natural disaster is the very definition of arrogance and thumbing your nose. Whether the storm ends up being nothing is beside the point.Nobody has to go to the game if they do not want to go to the game. The map, that I looked at all day yesterday and again this morning looks like rain wont get to the upstate until 2am Sunday morning. Me thinks that you protest to much
Especially after reading Tanner's rationale for canceling our game....much more focused on the needs of the state as a whole. All I know is that I actually feel pity for the Clemson PR person who is being made to go out and defend this position. No thank you
Dabo has a plan. 3 days to plot his answers to any questions as to why they played. Then the followers of Dabo will scream and shout to his greatness.Taters sent out a Press release for their fans this morning about the same time the hurricane made land fall. Narcissism at its best . Wyff has scrolling alerts this morning and warnings for latest updates and had taters press release included. Smh.
I've been calling them Jonestown 2.0 for some time, but the more I think about it, Jim Jones wasn't that charismatic a leader. Now Manson, that SOB was scary good at getting people to fall under his spell. I may have to change my nickname for them to "The Family 2.0".Dabo has a plan. 3 days to plot his answers to any questions as to why they played. I can appreciate your loyalties to you school/team in this case Clemson. We have many die hard fans for SC as well that will go the wall in defense of all things SC . But sometimes you have to admit as in this case when mistakes have been made, you will garner more respect from others.
I would propose one mistake has been made from a PR standpoint alone. It's a difficult task to defend Clemson's position at this point in light of the fact that all other schools in the NC/SC have either cancelled to moved time slots.I think whether mistakes have been made of not remains to be seen. The crowd will be smaller, the support will be less. Why don't we wait on the after-the-fact assessment?

Point taken, however the optics as you have evidently seen just on this thread are not flattering.we moved time slots...
@EssoClub2 now that is how you have fun with your rival. You're good people. I don't care what others say!
Some people don't like the fact that they are playing, but that isn't probative.I would propose one mistake has been made from a PR standpoint alone. I think that's a little extreme. I can't imagine that Blacksburg will have anything more than drizzle and blustery wind by gametime. I can understand, however, why East Carolina didn't feel comfortable making that road trip while a hurricane was threatening their homes back east. But most of Virginia isn't going to experience dangerous weather conditions from this storm.
I think Clemson probably should have cancelled or postponed the game, but I'm not terribly outraged that they didn't. Things will be fine.
probably something to the effect that he prayed about it and God told him it was ok to play.Dabo has a plan. 3 days to plot his answers to any questions as to why they played. Then the followers of Dabo will scream and shout to his greatness.
why does anyone care what Clemson does?
for the record though, last year a 30 mpH wind took down an 80 ft oak last year after the ground got saturated with rain. It ain't always about the wind....jsC'mon man, max winds to hit land has been registered at 90mph. Winds are barely hurricane force 75mph as it moves finally on shore. It hasn't even rained in Charleston with winds topping out at 9mph an hour ago. They are already having to rescue hundreds of people from this hurricane and it hasn’t made land fall yet.
What Dabo and the taters don’t get is even if the storm doesn’t affect their house , SC responders will need to help out NC . These guys are working around the clock to prepare. Roads have been reversed since Tuesday. Nursing facilities evacuated all over the state This takes extra manpower. Now they will have to worry about game day duties for CLEMSON. Smh.
Given a second chance to do the right thing the taters prove why CLEMSONING will always be deserving.
They have rescued "up to 200 people with 150-200 more needing help due to rain and storm surge". So 400 people rescued, 200k without power is going to shut down the entire bordering state 36hrs later? I guess Atlanta Braves, Falcons, Panthers, Titans, Washington Nationals, etc, etc should not play either.
If this storm was Cat 3,4,5 when it hit land, then I would agree, but it's barely a cat 1. The only need the coastal area has is a few hundred flooded houses and they need lineman to get power back.
But if it takes a whole other state, Clemson fans, National Guard, state troopers from upstate, the Esso club staff, and Dabo to save 150 people that knew Florence was going to hit the NC/SC coast for what seems to be a month now, then by golly let's shut down the state to do it!
Single wide trailers don't even roll over in 75mph winds, as we all know they are always the first structures to get hit by storms, just because storms are so mean they have to pick on the little guys.

UPC has only one thing to consider: how its own constituency views the decision in the long run. As long as they satisfy their own constituency, no one else matters. And I would apply the same logic to Harvard. This was the point I proposed, from a PR angle it is not the easiest decision to defend. I hope that no harm comes to anyone fan, players, coaches, etc, but as I have had to ask many times during my career involving major decisions concerning the business "Is the risk worth the reward".
You never want to end up on the wrong side of that debate.

Any comparisons will be drawn by the schools themselves, not by you and me, Partner. I'm guessing your position is that Harvard would have called the game, eh?King, I hold you in high esteem however, PLEASE don't ever compare Harvard to Clemson ever again or I may have to reevaluate my estimation of your status HA
I wonder if they will urge those fans that live in areas being affected to not risk getting on the roads to come to the game. Highly doubtfulIn fairness, Clemson is the school farthest away from where the hurricane made landfall in either state. And they are not even expecting rain until Sunday.
I understand that you want them to be the devil. But there's absolutely no reason for them to cancel their game just because there's a hurricane affecting people over 300 miles away.
Should that be necessary?I wonder if they will urge those fans that live in areas being affected to not risk getting on the roads to come to the game. Highly doubtful
As you and many others know, the Ivy League has it's own set of unique standards. I will leave it up to others to decide for themselves if they think how it may or may not be a standard to follow.Any comparisons will be drawn by the schools themselves, not by you and me, Partner. My nephew holds two degrees from Harvard, including a PhD in Psychology. I'm proud of him. You aren't my nephew, are you?As you and many others know, the Ivy League has it's own set of unique standards. With that said keep in mind the schools are relatively small (enrollment wise) and so the same rules applied to P5 schools don't really work well with smaller schools and vice versa.
Not that one is better than the other, they are just different.
It shouldn't but people will take chances when their team is playing. We'll know when we see how many people are in the stands.Should that be necessary?
It will be a greatly reduced crowd, and I'm certain a greatly reduced complement of law enforcement, etc.It shouldn't but people will take chances when their team is playing. We'll know when we see how many people are in the stands.
It's really not a school's responsibility to tell people whether or not they should try to come to a sporting event. People are capable of making their own decisions. If someone has to cancel their plans for any reason, it's not Clemson's problem, and shouldn't affect the others who don't have to change their plans.I wonder if they will urge those fans that live in areas being affected to not risk getting on the roads to come to the game. Actually, I hope everyone errs on the side of caution and the stadium is completely empty. It will be a greatly reduced crowd, and I'm certain a greatly reduced complement of law enforcement, etc.
That won't happen. either. But there will be fewer people there and the traffic control will be commensurate with that.Actually, I hope everyone errs on the side of caution and the stadium is completely empty.
2 ??? WOW, JUST WOW. Well based on that alone, no I am not your nephew, but a tip of the hat to him.My nephew holds two degrees from Harvard, including a PHD in Psychology. I'm proud of him. You aren't my nephew, are you?
Yeah, I know but a Gamecock can wish. LOLThat won't happen. either. But there will be fewer people there and the traffic control will be commensurate with that.
Maybe they can enjoy the game while their homes are destroyed. Also, consider that many coastal Clemson fans who were already planning on going to the game just extended their stay by a couple of days and made it their evacuation plan.
If my home is destroyed, I want to be elsewhere.Maybe they can enjoy the game while their homes are destroyed.
As they should be. His was a Masters and a PhD - each in the same discipline. He graduated from Furman before moving on to Harvard with a fellowship of some kind. He's now on the faculty of the business school at Texas-Austin.2 ??? WOW, JUST WOW. Well based on that alone, no I am not your nephew, but a tip of the hat to him.
I was more than ecstatic to get by and get a major and minor. Then I got my student loan statement and lost a lot of my enthusiasm. But hey all of my relatives are very proud of me.
