Right now the mortality rate of this is at 1.2% in the USA. If this keeps going down...

I do not attach to either party but let me ask this question:

How many people wanting to “get back to work” are also “pro life?” Hard to take the pro life stance when you are willing to sacrifice your parents and grandparents for the economy.

You do understand that with no economy you have literally no Healthcare system, either. I have mixed emotions about revving it back up but with no tax revenue from business we may have a depression of epic proportions. Depression means more death and despair. At some point we will have to step outside and face the boogie man. We may all be wearing masks by then.

I never advocated a full shut down either.

I would like to see the government take steps to be the employer instead of giving checks out. Create electric charging machines for electric vehicles from coast to coast. Government sponsored, but government profits from in the future. Put people to work building high speed rail, paving roads, building hospitals and new schools.

Don’t give people a check, let them earn it. When this passes, our infrastructure will be better not worse. Many of these programs would pay for themselves over time

Here we go. You’d think people that don’t like private email for government business would avoid using them.

That will certainly be enough to keep the economy running with all the electric cars on the road. I don’t personally know anyone with an electric car, hybrids yes, tota; e;extrications no. How will you power these stations? Gas or diesel generator? Priceless logic

@Bubbaglide
There are over one million electric vehicles in this country. Plus you don’t even know what you’re talking about or even how to quote on a message board. Maybe if you left the county every now and then you’d see the world is slightly bigger.

...and gets to, say, 0.006%, which is half of what it is presently, would you support returning to normal as a society?

Also, the current mortality rate must be lower than the 1.2% that we know of because of those that had it and never knew it was Covid-19.

The USA makes up 4.29% of the world population. Currently, the USA makes up 7.14% of the world deaths due to coronavirus. Sadly, I think this virus is just getting started in the USA. .

The overall death rate in the US is dropping like a rock. Fascinating.

Stay at home and do nothing, if you don't want to die. Not sure that's economically sustainable though.

You might as well go ahead and post Nancy Pelosi's Twitter account for a less biased source.

Kushner has a habit of using private email for government business. I was under the impression this was a problem when Hillary did it, and should be a problem when Trump folks do it.

or is it just an issue when one side does it?

Sorry, your sources are to the left of Marx, and, therefore, invalid. Surely, an independent like yourself acknowledges this.

This is good and bad. I just can't figure out which is more. Good, because idiots deserve what they get. Bad, because they live among innocent people trying to do the right thing. Hopefully, Falwell gets it.

Falwell doesn’t get it. That’s the point. That’s pretty clear from his comments this past week and opening back up the school against the opinion of public health experts in Virginia.

He is clueless, and probably selfish. That's why I hope he gets it. I'm serious. To hell with people like that. There is little to no value in their continuing to breathe. When I said "gets it," I meant gets the virus.

I don’t want him to get it. I just hope one of his students doesn’t die based on his actions.

So, to post something that is somewhat related to the original thread subject;

This morning I heard two current sets of numbers regarding deaths/infections. In the US, there have been ~75000 infections and 1078 deaths. Here in S.C. there have been 424 cases resulting in 8 deaths.

Those numbers come to percentages of 1.44% and 1.89% respectively.

Just found it interesting.
It's too early to really know the mortality rate from COVID-19; first of all, testing in most of the U.S. is woefully inadequate. I also have been told by multiple people that work in healthcare that not everyone who has died and had COVID-19 had that listed as their cause of death. I've seen lots of people posting images from SC where people were shopping in non-essential businesses and not practicing social distancing. That is a potentially deadly or health compromising mistake.

I will add, Jerry Falwell, Jr is a conspiracy theory promoter. He went on Trump’s favorite show, Fox & Friends and threw out a conspiracy theory.

and of course the 3 incompetents on the couch didn’t push back at all, or even question his “theory”. They could have at least questioned him or politely challenged him. They just sat there letting him promote whatever garbage he wanted to toss at the chalk board. They know he’s close to Trump. Anyone not on the right promoting such baloney would have been RIGHTLY cut off or challenged strongly. Instead, these 3 didn’t say a word.

I know multiple people in SC and locally where I live in VA that are still gathering in herds because they're just not going to be told what to do. Selfish idiots that say they are not going to alter their lifestyle. Some that say if you get coronavirus it was just meant to be be. I can't have sympathy for anyone like that if they catch it.

On friday, our death rate was 1.5367%. Right now, it stands at 1.7512%. This number continues to rise and will continue until we turn the tide. Up 22 basis points in 48 hours is massive.

We have no idea what the real number of coronavirus deaths are worldwide, as many countries are doing zero tracking. One thing is clear, the way this affects the immune system appears to be significantly worse than the flu and the ease of transmission similar to the common cold. That is a bad combo. I think this will take more than 200K lives in the US this year alone and that next year we’ll be making similar sacrifices. Prayers to all.

He might be the most crooked preacher in the usa. Just about all the televangelists reminds me of the one in the movie oh god!

Simple math? So you took resolved cases and death rate? Or infected and deaths? Neither is correct. Current infected numbers have not either recovered or died yet.
The number of known infected cases vs the known deaths. Yes, very simple math. I am not tracking resolved vs non as those are very fluid. What I am watching is the rising % of known deaths vs the known infections. This tells us that we are not winning this battle and have not topped the curve.

I think the only number that you need to look at for what you’re trying to figure out about the curve is the total deaths per day. If you’re trying to predict the top of the curve in advance, I’m not really sure which number you would use for that. The testing in this country is so spotty that I would avoid using those numbers.

Death rate lags the infections. Additionally, deaths are occurring on average 21 days into the infection. The US curve shows a drop in infections and death rates down but still steeper than infections. Social distancing is helping. As much as I hate it, 30 more days combined with season change should help. Testing is getting there.

SC scientist predicts explosion in coronavirus cases as SC braces for more patients

Read more here: https://www.thestate.com/news/coronavirus/article241471616.html#storylink=cpy

A nationally-known scientist connected to the University of South Carolina says thousands of new cases of the coronavirus could hit the state by early next month and he’s urging Gov. Henry McMaster to consider further restrictions to prevent people from spreading the virus.

Jim Morris, director emeritus of USC’s Belle W. Baruch Institute for Marine and Coastal Science, says the governor needs to seriously examine imposing a shelter in place order for South Carolina residents.

“The worst is coming, and the sooner we deal with this the sooner we can recover,” Morris said in a letter sent to McMaster on Monday. The letter went on to say that “the number of cases will explode in early April, all at once.’’

Morris, 69, a USC research fellow, is a specialist in using data to make mathematical predictions of future events. Normally, his projections are used to forecast sea level changes, but since early March he has been tracking the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in South Carolina and their rise over time.

It can't help that SC has begun opening up beaches. I also read on another post that a plane full of NYers just arrived in Myrtle Beach. That should go over well if true. People really don't understand this whole social distancing thing. What is it about staying home unless its absolutely necessary don't people understand? It can really make a person question humanity.

I do consider the Washington Post and New York Times reputable sources.

Sorry, I find no value in posting Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh quotes as sources.
I can help you there:

Rush Limbaugh 2/23/20
“It looks like the coronavirus is being weaponized as yet another element to bring down Donald Trump,”

“Now, I want to tell you the truth about the coronavirus. ... I’m dead right on this. The coronavirus is the common cold, folks.”

Sean Hannity 3/9/20
"This scaring the living hell out of people -- I see it, again, as like, let's bludgeon Trump with this new hoax."

Of course both are now proclaiming we've always been at war with Eastasia...

The gaslighting is top down though gotta tip the hat to Liz Cheney (of all people) who has attempted to counter the anti-science sentiment which has overtaken the GOP.
