Spurrier: "they're doing cartwheels in Knoxville for going 7-6..." (link)

I think they've had a lot of luck on their side in too many of their wins.

I don't know, i just think the barb loses some of it's sting when the response from the other side is "Scoreboard."

Too easy of a fan base not to mess with...

I don't think that it was meant as a barb, or jab, or zing, or needle or whatever you want to call it. It's just a statement to put into perspective the state of the SEC East. We have the mighty Tennessee Vols coming of their impressive 7-6 season and the mighty fan base is enthusiastic and then we have the lowly South Carolina Gamecocks coming off their majorly disappointing 7-6 season and the fans are dejected and want heads to roll. Of course the record is not the problem though and Spurrier knows it, but still he's going to try to make that point for damage control reasons.

He's probably sick and tired of hearing about how they are on the upswing and will be contenders. I know I am tired of hearing about it. They went 7-6 and their claim to fame was beating a 7-6 Iowa team in the Gator Bowl and a 7-6 Gamecock squad at W-B. Their last regular season game against Vandy was actually closer than our game against Vandy. Butch Jones may very well turn them into a contender, but it remains to be seen. He's recruiting well, but that is only one piece of the puzzle.

Unfortunately any criticism of UT, even if warranted, will fall on deaf ears around here. Losing two years in a row to these guys is unacceptable. Hopefully our team is coached a lot better this year and we beat them in Knoxville.

Lose to UT in embarrassing fashion twice in a row? Shut up until you beat them again. Don't make wisecracks about Texas A&M weak opponents days after being slaughtered by them. Don't broadcast you may retire in a couple of years before some high schooler signs a four year deal.

These things should be pretty basic should they not? The old phrase "put your mind in gear before engaging your mouth" comes to mind.

I still can't get over either one of those loses to this year and I watched both games in person.

Agreed. That's why making fun of Clemson's baseball team at this point screams "Walmart fan."

I'm gamecock from the top of my head to the bottom of my toes(jeffie will attest to that) but I'm also a realist. I like ucheat's upside a lot better than ours. Hope I'm wrong but afraid I'm not. Not a good time to poke'em imo.

I will give the Clemson response, "They haven't beaten us two years in a row, we have beaten ourselves"

I agree. I know I'm going to get trashed for saying this, but SOS act of snarky statements is starting to get a little old

I'll do a cartwheel myself if we win in Knoxville this year. I don't give a crap if he dominated them while at Florida. That does exactly nothing for us.

When has record ever mattered to SOS when making remarks... in his mind it is what it is and he will say it.... He never had a stellar record against FSU but some of his most memorable remarks were about them and Bobby B...

I think you have to look at the context. I've heard him speak a similar remark. The context is ' we don't settle for 7-6, but the Vols celebrate now." Wow how things have changed. TN used to fire coaches if they lost 3 games. SC expects to win 10-11 games every year now. Just a perception of the two programs. It can always tilt back, but I hope that doesn't happen.

After watching this past 7-6 season have to wonder if anything changed with the strength and conditioning program. Fitz had those guys in shape.
