All of Media wants to talk about how good Drake Maye is as QB. And how SC needs to worry about him.
What they all seem to forget is where he is playing at, the ACC.
If almost every game you play is against ACC defenses, you are going to get plenty of yards passing. He got beat by ND, Ga Tech, NC State, Clemson, and Oregon. I do not see why they consider him so good. He does not win against schools with decent records.
I think after we come out and beat them down, the media might pay more attention to what Beamer is building here. if Rattler keeps playing like he ended last year, he will be the QB the media will be talking about.

It’ll be a good solid test for our young DB’s. I think they are up for it. I’m guessing we will give up the underneath yards (again) - which can hurt us if don’t tackle well .

If we can get a pass rush going without blitzing, he will have a tough day. The issue is we are relying on a lot of unproven players to do that.

I think he is very good. Height - Athleticism- Speed- Decision Making - Arm Strength- and very good coaching around him.

What he does not have is enough tools around him.

I think we will have some pass rush but I am concerned that he is so athletic that we make give up the big play when we over push.

I think our DBs are going to shut him down. Well I hope we do!!

You can have all the tools but if you don't have the mental acuity to utilize them to their fullest all you have is another athlete with "potential". We'll see what happens.

UNC had a pretty soft schedule last year and won their division. Being in the ACC title game I think is the only reason they are getting hype this preseason. The ACC coastal last year was weak.

Their only quality win was Pitt who ended up ranked at the end of the year. They had very close games against bad teams in 5 of their 9 wins. The only blow out win they had was against a 3 win Virginia tech team.

Funny how most of their teams end up falling out but one always seems to sneak in at the end... one that few expected

been down this road before:

dismissing the opposing qb/team/etc because of the conference or whatever
and then on the drive home wondering how we looked so bad and they looked so good

We will see soon on the field how it goes.

Well one of their best offensive players is not eligible. And we beat two top five teams to finish the season. We'll see how it goes.

The team that beat those 2 teams is not playing this game.

This team is a different team.
This team will be better…. everyone that left is a muschamp holdover. The only exception I believe was Gilber. The only question is, will they be better out of the gate? We will know soon.

The team should continue to improve the level of talent on the team this year. The problem as I see it is relying on so many unproven players to take on bigger roles.

But I agree, I think we will be better off as we continue to cycle out more of Mushamp's roster and replace with guys that are more bought into Beamer's program.

The fact that we had multiple starters, who were recruited here by Muschamp, leave this team at the end of the year for uncertain futures elsewhere is very telling. Muschamp had plenty of talented players when he was here, but it seemed like his players in general always had a me-first attitude.

This is a total toss up game with big implications for the rest of the season. It would be nice if we were playing Furman first game to get a little footing with the number of question marks going in.

We're likely going to have to score in bulk. IF the OL can give Rattler time to get in rhythm and make good decisions, he has the experience and could pick up where he left off. If he's rushed and starts throwing casino-style again, it could be a long day.

Also, special teams almost single-handedly won several games for us last season - even when teams were heavily game planning against it. There's little reason to believe there won't be continuation which could be a huge plus in a game of nerves and unknowns.

I think any Gamecock fan that thinks anything else other than this game is going to be a very tough game- a very difficult effort is fooling themselves.

UNC has a solid QB, a solid offensive line, and a solid running game.

They have less questions marks going into this game than we do. It's going to be tough- very tough.

They also had a terrible defense last year. i wouldn't touch this game. However, if history is any indication, we start strong with UNC & Furman and get crushed at UGA.

Yep... We could have a solid win versus UNC and get crushed by UGA and that would be the norm. Not getting crushed would be great!

there is a reason they are favored.

That's all I am saying.

This. There has to be a reason espn only gives us a 37% chance to win.....time to prove them all wrong. If not, just gonna be another long season.

Offensively, we are a better team. Wells, Knox, Harbor, Simmons, Blake and more. Combine that with a 5 star QB, who has finally found himself late last season. Our passing attack has weapons, like we haven't seen in the programs history. Rattler is really enjoying himself with the above mentioned receivers, as he indicated following a recent practice. UNC has a great QB, but doesn't have a supporting cast like USC. Let's not forget "Tar Heel Killer Dakerion". He back squats over 500 lbs. and can throw a mean halfback pass. Bring em on!!!!

We don't know that. You can think that- but we have no idea. It's a pure guess.

it's reasonable to have question marks about our running game and our wide receivers outside of a couple of folks. I am old enough to never count on a freshman in a first game.

I'm seeing a lot of confidence from some (not all of course) - as if we should win this one going away- or we should easily be favored. Well, we aren't. There is a reason for that.

I think its going to be an ugly slugfest. Gamecock offenses seemingly never come out in the first game lighting the world on fire.

Also UNC has been recruiting well since Brown arrived. Their classes have been mostly in the low teens so they have talent and Gene Chizik for whatever reason has always been a tough d coordinator for us to face.

UNC gave up a lot of points last year, including 61 to App St early on. I don't see their defense being any better this year. We should be able to score a lot on them. Defense will need to show up, because they will likely be able to put some points on us too. Feel like it will be a shootout.

Totally agree. This one should be very interesting to watch from SkyCam. I'm interested to see what type of separation the receiving core gets given the amount time the OL is buying Rattler.

Also watching Rattler decision-making in general. He can't make the mistakes he made against Notre Dame. He got way too confident and loose with that lead and it turned the tide. The same with play calling that game.

Yep.

Yep...he did struggle in the 2nd half or the play calling changed, had that one pic that was on him. UNC gave the Cocks every chance to come back late in the 3rd and 4th Quarter but yall just could not get over the hump.

hmmm...............

hmmm...............
You must be soooooo happy. I said we will know soon. As bad as we looked Saturday, it’s not even close to the last few Muschamp teams of putrid in all phases of the game. Our offensive line is bad now, it was that way the entire Muschamp era. Long season but crap start. Like I said, we will know soon.
