What took so long for the coaching staff to realize Jason Brown is the best quarterback we have?

Yep, if he'd been ready he may have made a difference against Ky.

I don't get why people are still questioning why he didn't start earlier. It's been rehashed not only by the staff, but by JB himself.

He showed up out of shape, because the D3 program he played at didn't have a S&C program like us. He hadn't started a game or practiced since November 2019. He had to learn a new offense, and adjust to the speed and strength of the SEC. When the season started he was still learning the reads and calls.

It's clear watching his D3 tape he had the tools, he just needed time to put it all together.
He should have started before now maybe not game one but definitely before now. It took injuries to get him in the game that shouldn't have happened.

I thought St. Francis was FCS, not D-III. Regardless, it's obvious that they don't have the resources of a P5 school.

And Beamer was specific about not just calling the right protections but understanding the why behind those calls.

I call BS. The guy was making plays in the spring game FWIW. Quit making excuses where there are none.

My goodness, what could have been had they figured it out sooner rather than 3 quarters of the way thru football season....
I am sure the coaches intentionally kept him on the bench. I mean they surely were hell bent all year to keep themselves, their players and us fans from enjoying the joy of victory. Thankfully they finally relented and now we will win it all.

They didn't play him until their hands where forced. Not because they figured it out.

There is a difference between making a few plays in Spring game vs being able to run the offense a full game. Quit trying to find a way to blame the staff and be thankful Brown is the starter.
You have Brown making the plays in the spring game. You have many people noticing it. You have STEVE SPURRIER noticing it, and opining that Brown would be his pick.

If Doty had looked effective in the spring, last season in 2020, or this season in 2021, you’d have a point. He didn’t, and you don’t. We doggedly ran him until he just became too much of a liability before we relented. Brown performed effectively in the spring, in the EIU game, and in the A&M game; you don’t want to acknowledge that, fine, but he did. Then after the Florida game we have Beamer, after all that, after working first team for two weeks, saying he was “surprised” at how well Brown performed?? Curious; curious curious.

Nah. Don’t piss on my leg and tell me it’s raining. Not in shape, not “ready”, when you could have started with him after the spring?? Baloney. You want to do calesthinics or win football games, especially with the shite show put on by the other two guys. As far as Brown “saying so himself”, Brown’s a good soldier; he’s not going to contradict his C.O.

The answer still would be NO. The line being motivated had a lot to do with QB play it works hand and hand.

Good lord man, we've all said JB played well, but some of y'all act like you have a crush on the guy or something. I swear I wonder if his girlfriend didn't create a bunch of usernames on here or something. I got news for you, he played well, as did the whole team, but far from flawless. Florida also played pretty damn bad, especially on defense. To say Doty, Zeb or whoever wouldn't have played better when Harris, White, everyone else on the team did just that, is willful ignorance. There were several passes that JB threw last night that could have been better and a couple that may have been knocked down or picked off against a defense that was playing well. Seems like a couple of you who "really know football" and/or could coach at the NFL level if not for their love of family and local relationships (LOL) would recognize these things. Ahhhh, but ignorance is bliss....

So that means the guy was:
1. Out of shape
2. Not up to SEC speed
3. Did not know the offense
4. Came from a D3 program
Maybe you can add some more to the list?

The staff needs to take the blame for this and homers like you need to quit with all the enablement.

8 weeks they sucked, Brown shows up and they got motivated because they had a true Quarterback. Beamer said it himself. The off week and last week was their best weeks of practice. The Defense came to him wanting to practice longer because the offense was getting the best of them.

1. How did Brown become a Gamecock? Via the transfer portal
2. Who recruited Brown to transfer here? Beamer
3. Who admitted he came into spring camp out of shape? Brown
4. Who told Brown he needed to lose weight? Beamer
5. Who said Brown had things to work on in order to see the field? Beamer
6. Who said Brown needed to understand not just the playbook but the right protections? Beamer
Finally once 4, 5 and 6 were done Brown started.
Also, I never stated Brown had a bad spring or played bad vs A&M. I did point out his bad play vs EIU were he was sacked and fumbled.
It’s amazing how Beamer doesn’t get credit for getting Brown in the first place and then fans use pretzel logic to claim the QB that Beamer brought in was somehow ignored regarding playing time. Brown has to earn it and he did.

That’s a crock of 💩
Where in that list is the personal responsibility for Brown to work hard to improve?
Haters like you need to give the staff credit instead of complaining about everything.

Seems you're the one hating on Brown.

Secstatcat has him at a 0% interceptable rate. Obviously if you’re making a claim that could have been picked off - please tell me which passes in particular

Blame?

This wasn't some 5 star QB sitting pine. This was a nobody QB from a FCS catholic school that hadn't played in a couple of years that

Beamer and staff get nothing but credit. If Beamer's last name was Spurrier, everyone would be praising him as a QB whisperer.

Listen, not interested in a pissing contest.

Brown started when both Doty and Zeb were injured, not because he jumped thru requisite hoops.

Did Doty and Zeb look like they “knew the playbook and protections” to you? Hey, maybe they did, but if they can’t execute, what’s the point?

Like I said, do you want to do calisthenics or win football games? Beamer went with Doty straight out of the spring game; that was settled ahead of time it’s obvious because Doty’s spring game sucked to the point of being worrisome, which unfortunately turned out to be indicative of what was coming. They could have worked Brown; they chose not to.

Like Flameout said, water under the bridge now; let’s win some ball games.

The questions remain: (1) if Brown has a bad game will all these posters turn on him like they have Doty? (2) has Brown had his very best game the first time out and never be able to equal this performance - like Uiagkelele? (3) if Beamer wins 10 games next year will he receive any credit at all or will it be said any other coach would have won 11 or 12?

It takes a team. No one player wins or loses a game.

He would probably have started 3 more games if Spurrier were here. He definitely didn't have a problem yanking QBs. He did in our first game at least twice I remember lol

There’s a difference in complaining that a guy didn’t play before and complaining that he played well and the team won. There seems to be a contingent that would have rather seen Noland start and lose.
I haven’t seen anyone indicate that, so I’m not sure where you are getting that from.

There are 5 groups on here:

1.Those who never played a down of meaningful football and it shows; they just want to chat and dramatize.
2.Those who will clog three+ pages on a thread with a meaningless pissing contest.
3.Thoughtful posters who may not have learned the game on the field but nonetheless often have surprising insights, who I appreciate.
4.King Ward.

5.The rest of us…we just want to win, and we want our playmakers on the field so that we may do so.

The King Ward Group.

Dammit! I knew it was more than just one guy. I knew it all along. That insane baseball RR rating formula was too crazy to have come from just one guy.....

I have no idea. Our OL has not performed anywhere close to that all season. I believe a healthy Doty can make all those plays. Brown definitely has the advantage of experience. I believe he made quicker decisions than I've seen out of Doty. Thats to be expected though comparing a senior to a RS freshman.
Then it should have been PLAYing a game or two BEFORE this......
(Nevertheless, I'm still glad
Brown is scheduled to start against Mizzou. I can't imagine a different qb on our team giving us a better shot, right now. And I pray I haven't jinxed the young man--or the offensive line.)
