What took so long for the coaching staff to realize Jason Brown is the best quarterback we have?

Oh, yes, I'm trying.. I'm getting with the program. I'm even leaving some of y'all behind. Why would you seek to blunt my enthusiasm?

That’s okay. If the team makes a bowl game you can let us all know how we would be in the playoffs if Zeb hadn’t gotten hurt against Georgia.

If Brown has a bad game this week, watch the narrative turn on here.
Pigs will eat acorns. But they like squash and okra better.

Yes, there were multiple people to whom this was obvious. Yes I do realize this. But it was visited upon me afresh by the gentleman who reminded us of his prescience in this regard since the game. Whether Brown was in shape or not early on, he evidently threw a better ball and had better football chops as early as last spring, according to these incisive observers. We've been paying the wrong people the whole time. 🤣

Or so the "Fire Ray Tanner" brigade keep telling us. But be careful with assigning prescience to what may just be the longstanding hot and greasy fetish of Gamecock Nation towards back-up QBs. Eventually even a broken watch tells the correct time....twice. Even THREE TIMES during daylight savings......

I am unabashed in my enthusiasm for this obvious sea change

Not to take anything away from the oline but I encourage people to check some stats versus Florida compared to the rest of the season. Look at sacks, TFL and QB pressures and see how it matches up to the prior games. What you will find is that those numbers weren’t lower against Florida but the difference was the RBs breaking tackles and the QB moving in rhe pocket. Brown got pressured but didn’t panic which makes everything look better in the end.

Beamer's a friggin' idiot then I guess...he said the OL played much better. Well, pretty much everyone has said that. Except you. Shocker.

This is exactly why I don’t post here anymore. A lot of people called for brown to play and he gives us best chance to win and we’re ridiculed.

now he plays and our offense does a complete 180 and the same post in a that ridiculed us are saying any QB could have done that.

1: look at the TAMU game. Last or Zebs series and Jays first series: same players on both sides - tell me what is different.

2: Doty and Zeb have a MUCH lower throw away rate (avoid negative plays) have a MUCH higher sack rate with Jason having a HIGHER pressure rate. He avoids pressure, he makes smart plays. He avoids sacks. The sacks avoidance alone save drives. Zeb and Doty would have had a ton of negative plays agains Florida if the trends of their play hold true

3: Brown was pressured on 38% of his drop backs agains Florida. Some because OL missed assignments some because he WAITED For the plays to develop after creating more time

4: watch the flew flicker the first play of the game, it’s only a 16 yard play but he tlthtows the ball around 40 yards on a rope. The play and arm strength sent a message to Florida

5: the spin out and throw to Vann. No one is Else makes that play and if he is sacked, that drive is dead in the water.

6: look how many throwaways and sacks avoided Brown had. A huge problem in our earlier offense was too many negative plays - less negative plays and the offense can operate better

7: defense gives up two easy drives- then Brown puts together that drive where he makes two huge plays avoiding pressure - the defense is almost flawless after that. Why? Now they have an offense to play for.

Did jason do this alone? Absolutely not but to say that any Qb could have won that game is just objectively not true.

the lack of negative plays that jason AVOIDED was just as important as anything else to keep our offense going and no other QB has shown the be able to do that this year

Bingo. We went from having statues to having someone elusive. Sandlot ball. Sometimes it works.

Lol. The Frightened Gamecocks Forum.

Last week Brown was playing against scrubs and the scout team (which was incorrect; just snark.) This week his stats don’t suit us (threw away 4 balls in the fourth quarter when we were conservative and running clock, like he’s supposed to when no one’s open.)

There are 5 groups on here:

1.Those who never played a down of meaningful football and it shows; they just want to chat and dramatize.
2.Those who will clog three+ pages on a thread with a meaningless pissing contest.
3.Thoughtful posters who may not have learned the game on the field but nonetheless often have surprising insights, who I appreciate.
4.King Ward.

5.The rest of us…we just want to win, and we want our playmakers on the field so that we may do so.

Beamer's a friggin' idiot then I guess...he said the OL played much better. Well, pretty much everyone has said that. Except you. Shocker.
He also compared Doty to Jalen Hurts so let’s hold off on the “Beamer said” things. He’s a football coach and is going to say a lot of things that may be a bit of an exaggeration.

I have actually been on record saying that the oline has not been as bad as everyone keeps saying. They have had problems but they weren’t responsible for LBs and DBs standing in the hole before the RBs were. They weren’t responsible for RBs missing blocks on blitzes. Neither Noland or Doty have any pocket ability. They couldn’t move and if anyone came near one froze and the other ran right into it.

Pulling the guards, using a FB, White and Harris breaking tackles and Brown simply sliding up in the pocket made a lot of things look better than they did before.

My son and I rewatched the game yesterday and commented on that very thing. That one throw widened their eyes on the field AND on the sideline and backed them right off of the line, Where they decided they'd stay pretty much the rest of the game.

No shame in sandlot ball; its quite prevalent actually.

Mike Hold anyone?
Oh I have been all for it with this group. I posted that we needed to Favre it, Cunningham it, Steve Young it, etc because we couldn't Brady it. It's what Spurrier did with Syvelle and it won us a few and made us at least competitive until it didn't work. Then he went back to Mitchell who almost led us to a comeback win against Arkansas. This staff seems much more reluctant to try new things unless its having a RB show out and then trying someone else for 4 games...smh.

This is both hilarious and true!

And I wouldn't have it any other way! 🤣

He's making fun of your misuse of "your" instead of "you're" a few posts back.

(As funny as it is to watch something go over someone's head, it needed to end.)
Thank you, Lurker123.

You're is a contraction of you are. Your is a possessive term.

Please tell me your kidding about Zeb. If Zeb started they would have beat us by the point spread or maybe worse.

Worded like the above, my question makes sense. My what is kidding? My arm is kidding? My foot is kidding?

Had it been worded like the below:

Please tell me you're (or you are) kidding about Zeb. If Zeb started they would have beaten us by the point spread or maybe worse.

The above wording makes sense . My reply is that I'm not kidding. I don't know for certain one way or the other IMO, we did stand a better chance to win with Jason behind center.

I would have been more forgiving of the grammatical error had s/he not been so emphatic (and perhaps disrespectful of a different opinion) that we would have lost to FL had Zeb started.

Think about it like this.

Don't use contractions. Write out "you are," i.e., "Please tell me you are kidding about Zeb."

Your is possessive, i.e., "What is your golf handicap?"

Regardless of all this, it was a great game to watch, and a very satisfying victory.

Certainly, Florida didn't have as much tape on Jason as they would have with Luke or Zeb, which certainly didn't help them. Of course, Mizzou, Allbarn, & Clemron, will have plenty of tape on him.

I liked the poise and leadership which Jason showed on the field. I also noted how he wisely threw the ball out of bounds on busted plays.

As I stated in a previous post, it might end up being another Michael Roth.

The only game Brown would have made a difference was KY. Probably would have won that one but not guaranteed. He might not have been ready.

You're right is that better for you? Lol!

Yep, if he'd been ready he may have made a difference against Ky.

I don't get why people are still questioning why he didn't start earlier. It's been rehashed not only by the staff, but by JB himself.

He showed up out of shape, because the D3 program he played at didn't have a S&C program like us. He hadn't started a game or practiced since November 2019. He had to learn a new offense, and adjust to the speed and strength of the SEC. When the season started he was still learning the reads and calls.

It's clear watching his D3 tape he had the tools, he just needed time to put it all together.
