Wonder if Martin gets an extension from Tanner?

Tanner needs to give him an ultimatum. At least NIT next year or pack your bags!! No excuse or reason to lose game today!!

You at least have to have some sort of success to get an extension, and we have had no success. I have seen nothing that warrants an extension for Frank.

I don't think he has had enough time to get it done, but we needed to be farther along than this. There is not one shooter and not one leader on this team.

I believe his original contract is for six years, so he has another three unless USC opts to fire him before then. At this point, giving an extension would be an insanely stupid move.

I say fire him at the end of the season... 3rd season and we are still bad...

the basketball program does not deserve this debacle that Martin has caused... He has taken an elite program for the last 40 years and relegated it to the current status....shame on him

This is not directed at you Pepsi...

I'll tell you this... if by chance Martin leaves for greener pastures, and I don't think he will, you can forget about this program.

If you pull for USC you better hope Martin sticks around.

College basketball coaches are a fraternity and if they see Martin leave, what is perceived as a dead end job, before Martin got here, you can bet you ass, nobody worth a darn, would take this job

That's crap. We said the same about football until we hired two great coaches. We need an elite coach - Martin isn't one. He is better than Horn and I think we will get better but I NEVER see us being more than an occasional NIT and maybe once every 5 years NCAA team under Martin.

If Tanner feels the same way we should go ahead and part ways.

Were we better off by giving Odom years 6-7....Were we better off by giving Horn year 4.
If the team isn't improving giving a bad or mediocre coach more time is INSANE.

So stupid to say or believe that FM is the only coach for SC...or that the program is gone without him. Some people said the same thing when it was time for Lou to leave our FB team. You never know who will be interested in your job until it is open.

I guess you're right... i'm sure great coaches with track records would love this job.

Just see below the long list of SC coaches since 1980

Before Martin, is your list of coaches since 1980 that were dying to come to SC... you know what they have in common, none were head coaches after leaving SC.

Bill Foster
George Felton
Steve Newton
Eddie Fogler
Dave Odom
Darrin Horn

Can someone in the know confirm if USC ever seriously pursued Marshall before either Horn or Martin were hired. That guy would been a huge success in Columbia (or Clemson for that matter). But I always understood he was partial to Carolina.

One thing I know for sure... university of south carolina never offered the job to Marshall, nor will they ever. And no i'm not explaining why.

If someone believes differently, that's fine

Why do we need to change coaches after 3 years... We're never going to build a program by firing a coach every three years...

I say give him an extension for another 2 years, plus the three he has now and if he don't get it done, then go ahead and buy him out...

Could you not read, especially the last sentence of my statement, and see that tongue was firmly planted in cheek

No, I read your comments... I was bouncing off your comments to make a statement....

I'm actually willing to Frank another 5 more years.. What Horn did to the program is far worst than what happen to this program in the last 30 years...

Not disagreeing with you on keeping Martin bosoxcock, so no need to get defensive on this question. But you
were you one of the 5 people on this board who spent 100's of posts defending Darrin Horn? Just curious, because
it kind of sounds like the same rhetoric.

Also, I'd love to know why Greg Marshall was never granted an interview since you seem to know.

Bill Foster was the head coach at Northwestern after leaving here. Folger and Odom retired. But even if we concede your point, it didn't stop Martin from taking the job. And if for whatever reason it doesn't work out here for him, no doubt someone else will take the job.

This isn't an unattractive job. It pays well and the bar is set pretty low. Odom hung around for quite a while by simply producing average results. If FM could ever get to average, I'm sure he'll be here for a long time as well, if he so desires.

His drinking killed his career at Carolina...We didn't have an AD that would take the time to get George the help and rehab...

I think it was King Dixon who was the AD at the time.

Does he get an extension... first we must check to see if he has the proverbial "war chest of credibility". Only then will we know !!

FM is more like Staley than Horn... remember her fist three seasons were not the best either.... but FM is recruiting and beating out schools for good players like Dawn was at the time (i.e Louisville for PJ, and Georgetown and Nova for Silva)... he's not bringing in D2 talent like Horn was in year 3...

That said the extension will be automatic.... the raise and/or buyout is what you need to look at...

Fair points. I just remember people on this board saying the same things about Demontray Harris, Brian Richardson, Damian Leonard, etc.

Feels like Deja Vu. Hope it's not. Regardless, Frank needs at least one more year to prove progress.
