Just an incredibly important game tomorrow....

To state the obvious.
Man I am nervous. Lose to KY and we can kiss a winning record this year goodbye. Get beat up and look bad, you can kiss the fan base goodbye. Apathy will set in. Those of us who don't think Beamer can coach will have a lot of people joining us.
Feels like a pivotal game. We have to win this one!

Agreed. I feel like this is a MUST win of we hope to make a bowl.

Watkins arrested

You would be wrong...again. And if you would like to put a friendly on that, I'll be more than happy to oblige.

I'm literally posting what the warrant read.

That's typically the most accurate account of how things went down.

The victim also pulled a fire alarm and got the police involved.

That typically comes with consequence even if the "victim" turns out to be not telling the full story.
Yep, just like in SC’s Domestic Abuse calls to the police: somebody is going to jail immediately when they show up.

Polls have been wrong in recent years, not just in 2016 and underreporting Trump's strength in 2020, but remember "the big red wave" that was supposed to happen in 2022? If I'm going to pay attention to polls in the presidential race, it will be only in the 7 swing states. And even then, in regards to my chosen candidate, Harris (the opposition gives me no choice), I would only feel confident if she was up by at least 3 points.
You realize that under Harris you would be required to pay income tax on unrealized capital gains, right? For instance, let’s say you purchased $50,000 worth of Bitcoin a year ago. Today its market value is $100,000. Under Harris you would be required to pay capital gains tax on the unrealized $50,000 value. What’s the incentive for an investor to purchase long-term assets?

Poorly coached

Favored by 13. Lost by 28. To ODU. At home.

I'm also old enough to remember when Garrett Riley was amazing.

But amazing in JV leagues rarely translates to amazing when you play the big boys of the SEC.

Such an odd argument when the reasonable person would say Chadwell and Riley are better than Beamer and Loggains.
You can say that about nearly every USC coach for the past 60 years. So really nothing different now.

As even Ellis Johnson said a few weeks ago to Phil Kornblut- that he was pretty lucky when he was at USC that we had some huge difference makers right here in South Carolina that were interested in coming here- and that window was a small window- that closed even while Spurrier was still here.

We’ve been bad for 60 years because we keep hiring bad coaches like Beamer.

No foresight to hire a Kiffen or Freeze.

These polls are so all over the place. I can't believe even 20% of voters would consider Harris even with all of Trump's faults. How she landed in the position of Presidential Candidate is one of life's greatest mysteries.

FSU - 12 million NIL budget

Wow
12 million just for football
And they are 0-2

Things like this could eventually put a wet blanket on the NIL fire

What say you
I say they must have gone bankrupt since they have a useless recycled Clemson quarterback at the helm. Me thinks there’s a lot of embezzling going on just like in the government. Funny how those things happen with lots of cash laying around and no accountability

FSU - 12 million NIL budget

The University will have a decision to make next season when they open the NIL compensation up directly to schools.

Do they want to participate in pay-to-play football at a high level?

Or do they want to do just enough to retain fan interest -- something similar to what is happening today and wait on some additional NIL regulations to occur (caps, etc) before they jump in?

As mentioned in a previous post, our endowment fund today is in excess of $1 billion.

We could currently fund a full team with simply a fraction of the interest they make off that oversized nest egg yearly.

How much do they care about the alumni and fans who still care about football?

I personally receive fundraising letters at least a few times a month asking for $$$ to fund events and contribute.

The latest was a band trip to NYC.

Why are you harassing alumni when you've got an overrunnth bank account?

Not only do they massively overcharge for education - but their also getting the full tabs of any loans insured by the Biden Admin.

The football program and SEC funding alone has made them a good chunk of change over the past 30 years that could be invested into a team.

It's pure greed. It reminds me of an operation like St. Jude's.

They have a reported $7bil reverse account and use a good portion of new contributions to run ads of sick children with Sarah McLaughlin singing. They do this later at night for max effect.

Please stop the madness.
I think you are a bit misguided here. I'm not sure what you mean by a fraction of the earnings, but I don't think these endowments make as much money as you are suggesting. In 2022 the avg endowment lost over 8%. In 2023 the avg eanings was about 7.7%, so over the last 2 years combined they were still in the red. Second, they have to be very, very careful with what they do with this money. They cannot spend it just anyway they want. The worst thing in the world would be to lose their tax exempt status. Making payments to athletes to play a sport is certainly not a charitable activity and could very well cause them to lose that status.

Like I said:

You know, 10 years from now, when chadwell is still coaching, and Beamer is "retired", Mrs Satterfield is still going to be whining about "that one ODU game".

I mean it. Chadwell will be in to the next big job, winning a lot, and this woman will be yelling at the TV that "he lost to ODU!" as the nurses get another dose if medication ready.

Coaching Change

So you believe our issues are more coaching related than talent when you watched the team on Saturday?
Beamer's 4th year of rebuilding was very lucky to beat a Sun Belt team. A team that Coastal Carolina beat last year. We had more talent on the field than Old Dominion did. So who do you blame for our pitiful performance?

I think Beamer has been a far better gameday coach than Muschamp ever was.
That is not saying much. Nearly every head coach in the SEC gameday coaching was better than Muschamp. Muschamp showed us how inept Tanner is at evaluating football coaches.

Why would Urban Meyer come to Carolina if we've proven for the past two seasons that we don't have the funding to buy or retain high quality talent?
Why not give him a call and see if he wants one more run as a head coach? You will never know unless you offer him the chance.

This seems to be #1 criteria now for major D1 coaches in terms of taking a position.
Are you saying we are stuck near the bottom of the SEC and we might as well accept it? I don't agree with that.

Tanner is the AD

Coaching Change

The university will never admit it, but their actions indicate they are not dedicated to having a winning football program. Fans are becoming more aware of this too. Have you noticed the stadium is not packed to full capacity for many games now? The game might be listed as a sellout but the stadium is no longer packed. I attended nearly every home game during the Holtz and Spurrier years. Many of those years you had to be a Half Scholar club donor to receive season tickets to all home games.

USC top brass loves the money football brings in, but they are not willing to reinvest enough money to turn football into a winning program. A large majority of the huge SEC paycheck is generated by football, but it is being spent on many other things. What is our revenue share now? I think it is getting close to $75,000,000 per year. I know there have been some rules changed concerning NIL. Can the university use TV revenue money for the NIL fund? Rules or no rules the top SEC programs all ways will find a way to get what they need for a successful football program. The remainder of the conference teams are happy to win six games a season. I no longer can get excited about a 6-6 season.
That is my sentiment, too. I have been questioning for awhile whether USC is serious about having a winning football program. I, too, believe fans are becoming more aware of this.

I have been saying that about the Electoral College for awhile and thus why I have been predicting Trump will win the 2024 race. And in both the 2016 and 2020 elections, Trump ended up getting more in the popular vote than the polls said he would.

And even though I voted for her, I still got a good laugh about the "grizzled veteran coming out of retirement......" LOL

I contribute to St Judes every year and have been doing so for years. And even after I contribute, I shortly get letters to contribute more. And I am sure, and have thought for awhile, that they use part of the contributions for more TV ads. But I will probably continue to contribute as long as I can.

But I agree with everything you said there.

It will get worse. I expect the NCAA to raise the cap on the number of scholarships that can be given out, putting programs like ours at an even more disadvantage. The elite programs are running the NCAA.

Ours is likely around $2-4mil, maybe.

All indications are that they broke the bank for Rattler because of his prior national attention with the car dealership contact, etc.

FSU Football is the equivalent of UK Basketball.

The load the coffers and run an experiment.

It worked out well last season until the bowl game when all of their money men scattered as they had no real commitment to the school.

Honestly, it's not a bad way to operate though if you have the funds.

It keeps things interesting.
You and a couple of others have been talking about NIL for awhile. And you are and have been right about our disadvantage. I just do not see that ever changing. So. I have adjusted my aim for our football program. No nc or even SEC championship. I just want Shane to make us a mid-tier SEC program. Competing with Vandy for "catfish" status is unacceptable.

Poorly coached

I will say this about Chadwell: He has produced at 4 different schools. His next stop from Liberty, like Hugh Freeze, will be at a P4 school. We will see if he produces there. Based on his track record, I would not bet against him.

In the meantime I am pulling for Shane. I do not expect a national championship or SEC champion. Just make us a mid-tier SEC team. I, for one, will be satisfied with that. I do not think that is asking for too much from Beamer.

CARLEN was as big a mistake as Beamer.

NOPE. WHAT WAS I THINKING???? BEAMER IS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE IN THE HISTORY OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!!
That would be Muschamp, couldn't win at powerhouse Florida and dumbass Tanner thought it would be wise to bring him in, then give him a huge contract extension with a large buyout, but Beamer is close behind

FSU - 12 million NIL budget

Great article at ESPN.com today about SMU’s NIL approach. As many of you remember, SMU was hit with the Dealth Penalty for buying players. While it was illegal back then, it is now legal if structured with state and university guidelines.

SMU has now gotten into the game big-time with its ability to pay athletes hundreds of millions of dollars from its ultra-wealthy alums and boosters. We now know why SMU is willing to enter the ACC without taking any conference revenue for almost a decade — it will take in much more money via its alums and boosters. We can expect SMU to rule the conference soon. It can pay any price. NIL means “NOW IT’S LEGAL”
