Men's basketball question..

I haven't followed the team since Martin departed for UMass. Lamont Paris seems like a good coach and stand up guy and I know he was handed a pretty bare cupboard, but we did get some big school transfers. Are we struggling due to chemistry, coaching, or talent deficit? I just thought we'd at least be competitive and we seem to be getting blown out when we lose. Happy to beat Clemson always.

A Quick Visitor's List For This Weekend

It's been sort of tough to track down every name that could be here this weekend because many of them were late additions, and like everything else the last 3 weeks, there's been a little chaos involved. That said, we have a pretty good idea of most of the visitor's in town this weekend and thought we'd give everyone a quick heads-up. For this list I'm including folks that came into town yesterday, today, and throughout the weekend.

Official Visitors

We had already mentioned 4 official visitors earlier in the week, but two of those it would seem aren't happening as far as we can tell: JUCO RB Robert Henry doesn't seem to be coming, and ATH Aziah Johnson just announced his commitment to Michigan State on Wednesday and appears to be shutting down his recruitment.

In addition to the aforementioned WR Tyshawn Russell and Virginia LB Commit Kamren Robinson

TE Trey Knox (Arkansas transfer)
TE Shamar Easter (Arkansas commit)
TE Reid Mikeska (Miami commit)
DL Xzavier McLeod ( Gamecock commit)
ATH/TE Kamron Sandlin (Gamecock commit)
TE Nick Elksnis (Florida transfer)
RB Dominic Richardson (Ok. St. Transfer)

Unofficial Visitors

This list is not inclusive, mostly because I know some of the kids are wanting to make it a surprise according to Dante Reno, but here are some names I can share:

2023 JUCO DL Elijah Davis
2024 QB Commit Dante Reno
2024 WR Mazeo Bennett
2024 OL Josiah Thompson
2024 OL Kam Pringle
2024 LB Wendell Gregory
2024 TE Michael Smith

Tosin Babalade Announces Decommitment

With just over a week to go before the early signing period, the Gamecocks are attempting to flip several candidates and hold onto their class.

Tosin, affectionately known as “Big Tree” was close with recent portal addition MarShawn Lloyd. Today he tweeted that he needed some more time to think things over.

We will keep you posted on any other developments here. I will say when he first committed, he took some extra convincing that weekend, but then he seemed pretty solid after that.

This isn't from any lack of effort by the staff, they literally pulled out the big guns and all visited him just a couple of days ago.

My guess is Lloyd’s departure definitely got him thinking a bit. In a tweet referencing Lloyd just a few days ago Babalade said simply, “ahh man”

I will say, the staff had planned to get him on campus this weekend, I'm working to see if that's still happening. I'm also working to see if this is a truly "let's think on it" moment, or if he's done considering South Carolina.

Gator Bowl Practice Observations (story)

Some quick notes from the 30 minutes of open practice today and what I saw in terms of who was there and wasn't. Keep in mind the rest of the practice was closed, so we don't know what might have happened after that or who might have been there. No speculation, just reporting the names:
