We need a QB who can run

Rattler isn’t much of a runner. When we pulverized Georgia in 2012, Shaw ran for 4 first downs in the first quarter. And most of those were 3rd and long. Rattler throws a nice ball but his ball is only maybe 20% better than Doty’s. That’s not going to make the difference. Georgia has the luxury to not need a QB to run but we do not. Running QBs also make the O line look much better.

until we get a kid who can and will run, we’re going to be struggling to get first downs and score.

Behind the box score: Charlotte

Hey y'all, hope your Mondays went well. I did another week of play charting and came up with some interesting trends for this team in terms of what might work as an offensive identity. Also a brand new defensive stat is in here too!

As always, thank you for subscribing and reading.

Olympic Sports Update Sept 24-25

I'm beginning to think our girls soccer team was overrated. 1-2 in league play now.

FROM USC:

COLUMBIA, SC – The No. 8 South Carolina women’s soccer team (6-2-3) fell to No. 20 Arkansas on Sunday, 0-1. The loss marks the second of the season, with both losses coming in conference play.

Junior Catherine Barry got things started, taking the first shot of the game 10 minutes in but was met by a save from Arkansas goalkeeper Grace Barbara. 5th year Samantha Chang followed suit less than two minutes later, but came off wide up top.

After three fouls and a yellow card on the Razorbacks, Ava Tankersley was able to find an opening in the back right corner of the net to put Arkansas up 1-0 on the Gamecocks in the 32nd minute of play.

Corinna Zullo put up another chance for South Carolina, but it was saved once more by Barbara.

Despite putting up five more shots in the second half and ending the game with an 8-5 advantage, the Gamecocks were unable to bounce back.

The Razorbacks received four yellow cards on the day including head coach Colby Hale. Barbara ended the game with five saves, and the team took two corners.

UP NEXT

South Carolina will stay at home to take on Florida, Friday Sept. 30 at 7:00 p.m. in Stone Stadium.

On the other hand the men's team is playing much better.

FROM USC:

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s soccer team won its Sun Belt Conference opener Saturday afternoon (Sept. 24) over Georgia Southern 1-0. The Gamecocks improve to 5-3-1 on the season and their first win as a member of the Sun Belt Conference.

Carolina out-shot the Eagles 15-8 on the afternoon and held a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal. In net for the Gamecocks, Ben Alexander earned his second shutout of the season with a pair of saves.

South Carolina was looking dominate in the first half, putting up 10 shots and holding possession for 67 percent of the half.

The Gamecocks continued the offensive pressure early in the second half, finally breaking through in the 58th minute. Adam Luckhurst blasted a shot from just outside the 18-yard box that the GSU keeper was able to make a diving save on. However, Cristiano Bruletti was right there to gather the rebound and burry it home for his second goal of the season.

The lone shot on goal allowed in the second half by the Gamecock defense came in the 70th minute, but Alexander was able to knock the shot over the crossbar.

South Carolina returns to action October 1 at 7 p.m. when it travels to West Virginia for a Sun Belt Conference match.

The Volleyball team split a pair of matches with 12th ranked Florida.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina (7-5, 1-1 SEC) rallied from a 2-1 deficit to notch its first ranked win of the season, taking down No. 12 Florida (10-3, 2-1 SEC) in five sets on Sunday afternoon. The two sides traded blows all game, but the Gamecocks saved their best set of the weekend for the fifth. Riley Whitesides recorded four of her team-high 16 kills in the final frame and the Gamecock defense piled up a season-high 18 blocks against the Gators. The team continues its stretch of five games in eight days when it travels to Athens for a midweek matchup with Georgia on Wednesday, Sept. 28. The match with the Bulldogs will be a national broadcast on ESPNU.

Mental Progress Pays Dividends Against Charlotte (Story)

Hey y'all, hope your Sundays are going well. A lot of South Carolina players and coaches have talked about playing faster and being able to just lock in mentally if the physical part of the game is second nature. So after last night, I asked Beamer and players about it and wrote a story.

As always, we appreciate you sticking with us through another game week.

We look pretty bad

We have been out of sync in every game. Poor defense and little or no offense.

It concerns me that our players dress like slobs with stuff hanging out from under their jerseys. They look undisciplined. I know Beamer needs time to get some players but it is going to be hard to attract and retain recruits with performances like this.

Also, these may be the worst announcers I have ever heard for a college football game.
