Vandy is not a gimme, but….

The progress from week one until now is impressive. However, I’m not sure why this team was as bad in week one. Loggains was impressive tonight with his play calling. Vandy is not a gimme, but we could be 9-3 to finish the year. I don’t think that would surprise anyone. Vandy, Wofford, mizzou at home, and clemson. Those are all winnable, if not expected with our defense. Even 8-4 would be a surprise I think with the way we started. With two of those loses being arguably games that we had chances to win against lsu and in Tuscaloosa. Ultimately, I like watching Beamer coached teams because he gets EVERYTHING out of these kids!! I’m not completely sold on Loggains, or some of the other position coaches long run, but Beamer should be allowed to stay forever.

Eddie Floyd finally quits Board of Trustees, Governor picks Floyd's daughter to fill his role

Eddie Floyd, a member of the USC Boad of Trustees who graduated USC when Dwight Eisenhower was President, finally resigned his position from the USC board after serving for 40+ years.

Floyd, a member who has been seen napping at Board meetings, told the governor that he wanted his own daughter to take his place. McMaster fulfilled Floyd's wishes by quickly appointing her to the position stating, "no one else expressed interest."

Of course, no one outside of Floyd, his family, and McMaster and the governor's own advisors knew of Floyd's resignation so "interest" would have been very difficult to gauge.

McMaster, stated that this was temporary, and the legislature could choose to vote in someone else. Of course, McMaster also knows the Republican legislature is an automatic rubber-stamp for his preferences for appointed positions.

It is a certain fact that in Florence, SC there are a number of highly qualified USC graduates over the last 4 decades that would have been interested in serving in the role. Apparently, Eddie Floyd, Governor McMaster, and Floyd's daughter feel like this board position is a family inheritance.

Fall Baseball Scrimmage Notes (Nov. 1)

Eight innings of baseball at Founders Park today and eight different pitchers on the mound as South Carolina continues to ramp up towards its second exhibition, next Thursday against College of Charleston.

- The best news of the day was that Nolan Nawrocki was in the lineup. If you read my update on Tuesday, you know he was hit in the head by a pitch in that scrimmage and Mainieri immedietely ended the day after what looked like a serious injury. He did not play Wednesday, and the team was off Thursday, but he was out there today. He didn't run out his grounders or play defense -- they just had him standing and hitting and used pinch runners when he got on base -- but he did play and that is the best sign possible.

- The same can be said for Blake Jackson in terms of hitting but not running/playing defense as he works back from a lower body injury as well.

- Your long national nightmare is over: Ethan Petry finally hit his first home run of the fall. It was hardly a slump -- he had four hits against Air Force last week and has been mostly fine -- but he hadn't tagged one over the wall before today. In the 7th inning, he took a Brendan Sweeney pitch out into the home bullpen in right-center field.

- I continue to be impressed by JUCO pitcher Brandon Stone. He's looked solid pretty much every time I've seen him, and today he retired six out of the seven batters he faced with two strikeouts in two shutout innings. His slider bites really hard; both strikeouts came swinging and missing at it. A name to file away for sure.

- Nice days for the top end of the staff as well, with Matthew Becker and Jake McCoy throwing the first two innings. Becker gave up one run on a Talmadge LeCroy RBI single but was solid otherwise, and McCoy threw two scoreless frames.

- My biggest concern with this team right now in terms of intangibles is the ability to keep runners close and hold them on. That was always going to be a problem replacing Cole Messina behind the plate, but the catchers are really struggling with it. Four more stolen bases on five attempts against Gamecock catchers today, and that's been an issue all fall.

- Nice day for JUCO transfer Cayden Gaskin, who is going to have every opportunity to win the second base job. Had three RBIs with a two-run single and a sacrifice fly, stole a base and played sound defense.

- Freshman pitcher Ryder Garino got through two innings without allowing a hit, walking just one guy.

Tex-ass & Oklahomo!!! ... Welcome to the SEC!!!

With aTm & arkNsauce we now gots the ole, corrupt SouthWest Conference $$$ ... Wonder how long it'll take for the Steers & Queers to corrupt the SEC but, ... I ain't seen no horns yet. ..... Brisket anyone???

Somebody ate OUR cupcake!!! I don't know about YOU PUMPERs but, I'm pulling for Vandy to BEAT OUR COCKS!!! The SOONER we get rid of our ass grabbing HEAD coach, the safer I'll feel. (REMEMBER PSU???)

NOW, let's at least mention the WHITE ELEPHANT in the room. Watched the T&V game and I noticed both teams had Albinos playing at positions other than long snapper, kicker and 'THE Tight Ends who never play'. Are we a Historically Black College???

CHAP YOUR ASS???

Baseball Scrimmage Note (Oct. 29):

One quick update from the fall scrimmage at Founders Park today, and it is not a pleasant one.

In the third inning of action, transfer Nolan Nawrocki was hit on the head by a pitch facing Max McClellan. Obviously nothing intentional and everyone was pretty shaken up, but Nawrocki was struggling to walk around a little bit afterwards and Paul Mainieri immedietely called the scrimmage done after that with three more innings left on the schedule.

Will update if I hear any more.
