The Standard Restaurant - Norman

Hey, guys-
First, I come in peace. In fact, you'll find that OU fans are a relatively friendly bunch. Are we SEC Ready as a fanbase? Ha. We shall see.

I have been a member over at SoonerScoop.com since 2004 when I started at OU, so I know how the boards game goes. I am also co-owner (with my three siblings and mom) and Managing Partner of The Standard in Norman (The Standard Website). We opened our restaurant/bar October 2022 in Downtown Norman, which is less than mile to the stadium. 48 beers on tap (primarily Oklahoma breweries, but also a few domestics), fully stocked bar, burgers, wings, fried green tomatoes, etc. 4,000 sq ft of interior beer hall in an former auto body shop with another 5,600 sq ft of outdoor patio/beer garden. It’s been a fun ride and happy to bring another good spot to Norman, where 3 of the 5 of us call home.

I am reaching out to invite any Gamecocks into our house. It's a great spot to not only pregame (Thursday/Friday night and on Gameday), but also to watch the game. We have 9 TVs throughout the restaurant ranging from 68" to 85". If you'd like to take it one step further and host an event, please email events@thestandardnorman.com and our boy Paul will get you going.

Sidenote: Confidence is low here in Norman after our first two weeks. Feeling good about our defense for the first time in at least a decade, but our offense is both decimated by injuries and seemingly inept. It could be a long year with our schedule, but hopefully we put up a fight. Either way, we are glad to be in the SEC where real football is played. 95% of us were ready to jet the Little 12. Iron sharpens iron, as they say. We'll see how that works.

Enjoy Norman and please reach out my way at owner@thestandardnorman.com if you want any additional recs while you're here!

For those who care to make a pick this week....

Who you got? Oklahoma is a one point favorite and the O/U is 41.
This is a tough game to pick obviously (one point spread). I think the Gamecocks win. Maybe 20-13 or something along that line.
Carolina to win is my official pick.
Other games of interest
I think UGA beats Texas. Alabama beats Tennessee and LSU does beat Arkansas. Feel free to use this brilliance to lose some moneys with.
Go Cocks!
And honestly I only give a sht about one game tomorrow. Go Cocks!

Top local 2025 linebacker target Josh Smith talks South Carolina

Smith has various upcoming visits planned, but he listed South Carolina among the top schools in his recruitment.

“They’re definitely one of the top schools in my recruitment right now,” he said.

Several factors stand out about Carolina, Smith told us. “The environment, the opportunity to go in and play immediately, and definitely the chance to play for my home town,” he said.

He is listed as a weakside defensive end, but the Gamecocks are recruiting him as a linebacker:

(Defensive coordinator and inside linebackers’ Coach Clayton White) is recruiting me as a linebacker, not as an edge rusher,” Smith confirmed with GamecockScoop.

He said his relationship with White remains strong.

Sania Feagin, Raven Johnson Preview South Carolina Women Basketball Season

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — They are both two-time national champions, and looking for more.

South Carolina women’s basketball brought senior forward Sania Feagin and redshirt junior point guard Raven Johnson to represent the program along with Dawn Staley at SEC Media Day, and both players shared some thoughts on the program, trying to repeat as National Champions, incoming players and more.

Have to be honest, my audio came out a little rough on these, some choppy quotes and some worst acoustics from yesterday. My fault, but here is the gist of everything:

Who is attempting to teach Sellers when to get rid of ball when under pressure

Whoever is attempting to do this is failing. Also in an interview after the game he kept saying he needed to get better in determining when to keep trying to make a play and taking a sack. Actually he needs to be taught when to keep trying to make a play and throwing the ball away. The trouble is I don't know if we have the assistant coaches capable of doing this. They are concentrated on coming up with the next game plan without the real ability to do so and thus not handling the
teaching of the details that help win games.
