Columbia 4-star WR talks about South Carolina recruitment

During an on site interview at the Fairfield Central vs. Ridge View game on Aug. 23, here is what high-level, 6-foot-2, 185-pound 4-star Columbia, SC target Jordon Gidron had to tell me about his recruitment from South Carolina:

On his relationship with Gamecocks' wide receivers coach Mike Furrey: "It's going good. I talk to him (consistently). The relationship with he and Coach Beamer is going very well.

On what he likes about Shane Beamer: “Just a high energy guy and person. He’s always checking in on me. When I got to watch practices, he’s always running around, he’s with the guys. (Beamer) is not just sitting at the top, watching. So I just like his personality and how he runs things.”

The Gamecocks made his Top 12 cut alongside Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Duke, Georgia, Miami (FL), Louisiana State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee in July.

Gidron visited short-lived former Gamecocks' position coach James Coley and the Georgia Bulldogs for their neutral site clash with Clemson at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Aug. 31. Then, he was at Carolina for their big conference game with LSU on Sept. 14. The Gamecocks are keeping good communication with Gidron, and the Bulldogs should be a program to watch in his recruitment.

Gidron, and Jackson Repp, a Class of 2025 Carolina wide receiver target from Christ Church in Greenville, are each battling injuries.

But instead of a season-ending ACL tear like Repp, Gidron only suffered a small tear to his meniscus on Sept. 7. Gidron announced that he is expected to be out 3-6 weeks. That third week is Ridge View's Sept. 28 game against Westwood, where I will be in attendance. And after the game, he should have further things to say about his recovery timeline, the Gamecocks, and other schools in his recruitment.

'26 NC 3-star WR Jaire Richburg lists South Carolina among top schools

"(Wide receivers' coach) Mike Furrey is real energetic. He and I have consistent conversations, and I love South Carolina's atmosphere and coaches," said the 6-foot-3, 180-pound 3-star wide receiver who is ranked No. 25 in the state. Richburg, who is a high school teammate of dynamic North Carolina 4-star pro-style quarterback commit Bryce Baker, listed the Gamecocks alongside Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest, and Virginia Tech among standout programs in his recruitment.

He demonstrates speed, smooth, crisp route running, and physicality after making the catch. Richburg has height, length, and vertical advantages when going up to make contested catches. South Carolina will look to continue making their recruiting pitch to he and other major prospects in the highly-important border state.

Our road to a bowl game.....

Yes I know we are Carolina so no result good or bad is shocking but........
I'd like to think we can take care of Akron and Wofford. That's 4. I've been told on this forum that after 4 years of Beamers recruiting we are currently on par with Vandy talent level wise. I choose to believe we can go to Vanderbilt and win. That is 5. This is where it gets tricky.
Our best chance at #6 IMO is between Missouri at home or TAMU at home. Outside shot at Oklahoma on the road. Oklahoma is in the middle of our murderers row of games and at their place, but they have not looked unbeatable and they will also be in the middle of a hell of a stretch of games. I think we probably drop this one tho.
Between TAMU or Mizzou I think we can beat both but we clearly have to beat at least one of them. My guess is it's Missouri. I still don't trust them. We are in the calm before a fantastic storm of games for The Gamecocks. It's a great time to be Carolina and in the SEC. Go Cocks!

A couple things about Akron.

The Zips are 1-2 with losses to Ohio St and Rutgers. A win over Colgate. They are tied for first in the MAC. Looks like they are mostly a passing team with a change of pace running QB that has gotten around 30 snaps. Ranked 78th in passing, 121st in rushing. Scoring 18 a game and giving up 40 but getting stomped by Ohio St skews that I would bet. Still I do like how that sounds.
They throw more to the TE and RB but have a couple WR's, Norton and Golden that appear to do most of the damage.
Seems like they are tailor made for us to beat. Lawd I hope so. Go Cocks!
Kickoff is 7:30 In Williams-Brice and on ESPNU.
