Alabama won the SEC with a 10-0 conference record. The Gamecocks won the Eastern division with a 6-3-1 conference record.

COLUMBIA, SC – No. 14 South Carolina women’s soccer (11-3-4) took down the Mizzou Tigers (5-8-4) on Thursday to claim the SEC East title and No. 2 seed in the SEC Tournament to wrap up regular season play in Stone Stadium. The shutout over the Tigers marked the 11th of the season for the Gamecocks. Eight seniors were honored during a pre-game ceremony, recognizing Camryn Dixon, Samantha Chang, Heather Hinz, Jyllissa Harris, Abby Hugo, Riane Coman, Anne Frances Lorio, and Eveleen Hahn.
Breaking Down the Action
Junior Cat Barry got things started, taking a shot in the second minute of play but was met by a save from Mizzou keeper Bella Hollenbach. The Tigers answered back with a shot of their own 30 seconds later but overshot it up on top.
It was a battle of possession for the remainder of the first half, with the Gamecocks taking a 7-5 shot advantage (three shots on goal for each side). South Carolina took five corners to the Tigers’ 0 but couldn’t capitalize. The teams headed into the locker room tied 0-0 at the half.
Barry once again got the first shot off for the Gamecocks to start the second half, targeting the bottom of the net but it resulted in a save from Hollenbach. In the 50th minute, a pass up the right side from Corinna Zullo set up sophomore Payton Patrick to send it to the right corner of the net and put the Gamecocks up 1-0. The goal was her fourth of the season and the sixth of her career.

Less than four minutes later, Claire Griffiths beamed it in from the far side of the box with her left foot and made contact with the upper left corner of the net to extend South Carolina’s lead by two. The goal was her third of the season.
Login to view embedded media The Tigers would go on to make three more shots during the second half but were unable to score. The Gamecocks ended the night with an 11-8 shot advantage, took seven corners, and senior goalkeeper Heather Hinz tallied six saves.
