COLUMBIA, SC – No. 14 South Carolina women’s soccer (11-3-4) took down the Mizzou Tigers (5-8-4) on Thursday to claim the SEC East title and No. 2 seed in the SEC Tournament to wrap up regular season play in Stone Stadium. Breaking Down the Action
Junior Cat Barry got things started, taking a shot in the second minute of play but was met by a save from Mizzou keeper Bella Hollenbach. The Tigers answered back with a shot of their own 30 seconds later but overshot it up on top.
It was a battle of possession for the remainder of the first half, with the Gamecocks taking a 7-5 shot advantage (three shots on goal for each side). South Carolina took five corners to the Tigers’ 0 but couldn’t capitalize. The teams headed into the locker room tied 0-0 at the half.
Barry once again got the first shot off for the Gamecocks to start the second half, targeting the bottom of the net but it resulted in a save from Hollenbach. In the 50th minute, a pass up the right side from Corinna Zullo set up sophomore Payton Patrick to send it to the right corner of the net and put the Gamecocks up 1-0.
