Questions for the board. Give me your thoughts on my post.

Think back to Lou Holtz's first season in 1999, which what we all want to forget, was 0 - 11. Not only was the win-loss record the worse possible, we only played one game that was close. And that was to Vandy, who beat us 11-10 on our home field. Ouch! We have just hit rock bottom. If you were a fan then, you probably wondered how can we play so badly considering that we had a hall of fame coach.
So, please don't get overly optimistic about Beamer's 1st season. The prognosticators are usually right or very close with their predictions.

Lou Holtz in his 2nd season. USC goes 7-4 and beats OSU in the Outback bowl. How many of you had no faith in Lou's 2nd season?

So, what should we have learned from Lou Holtz's first 2 seasons? I want your thoughts and how you would apply your thoughts to Beamer in his 1st season and 2nd season.

What Woodrow has learned: The first season for a new coach for a broken program can be very difficult because of many reasons. I was pretty miserable with Lou's first season and had doubts for the seasons beyond that and believed that we would never have a good season or team. The second season was exactly the opposite for a new coach. I was pretty much blown away particularly the fact that we ended that season by beating the mighty buckeyes in the Outback Bowl.

Concerning Beamer, I think he will finish at 4 wins and 5 wins if we have some luck. I will not be disappointed should we win just 3 or 4 games. He has a steep hill to climb with too many glaring roster weaknesses. For Beamer's 2nd season, I'm expecting a little better win total. Most of the needs will be filled after 2021, but we will have to rely on freshman for 2022. That doesn't disappoint me because of the recruits that we are getting commitments from and the whole body of work that Beamer and his staff have done in such a short time. The foundation has been laid. The future looks bright.

Blowing Up college Football and Starting Over

With the move of UT and OK to the SEC and all of the expansion talk that is going on, myself and some buddies were discussing the other day. What if we blew up college football and started all over. What I mean is lets break apart all conferences, put all 130 teams in the pool. Get some really smart people that know college football and have a 4 conference (that looks like where we are going as far as major conferences) snake draft. Each 'conference commissioner' would try to build the best conference for the long term. This is for FOOTBALL only. Below is my first attempt if i was doing the draft. There would be 16 teams per conference. (I know that is only 64 teams , the remaining teams could go into 4 lesser conferences) The conferences are not really SEC, ACC, etc per se. Just 4 conferences. The draft is a snake draft ( the 4th conference to pick would get the 4th and 5th pick and the conference that picked first would get the 8th and 9th and so forth) . Here goes some of the criteria that I thought about but not necessarily all in this order and not necessarily applied evenly. Recent success (Last ten or so years) , Wall street journal team value (2nd tabsheet - one of the main reasons some of the schools are as high as they are) (thanks to @uscnick that posted this the other day) , Fan support (3rd tabsheet - 5 year avg along with % filled), perceived TV market, recruiting footprint, current coaching situation .... among others. I tried to be unbias as possiblr but of course it does come down to personal bias. (yes I did select Clemson ahead of Carolina if I were picking today. NOO i am not a tater). If I came down to multiple teams I was looking to put in one spot i would check to see if there was a natural rivalry already in that conference and try to include one with the rivalry. At the same time, I tried to include teams from different regions of the country in each conference to give a wide balance to each conference. I will say this. If I did this exercise 10 times I don't think any of the 10 would be the same even through the top 20. Even after looking at it now there are probably some things I would change. So here goes. Any thoughts.

Blowing up college football

Regardless of how you feel about this person's lifestyle and political views, this is just sad

The mother of Olympic shot-putter Raven Saunders has died.

Saunders, a South Carolina native who won a silver medal Sunday in the women’s shot put at the Tokyo Olympics, confirmed the news in a Twitter post Tuesday.

“Hoping off social media for a while to take care of my mental and my family,” she wrote. “My mama was a great woman and will forever live through me. My number one guardian angel.”

If Texas & OU join, would not be suprised to see TX A&M & Mizzou to the ACC...

If Texas and OU join, do you think it's possible for A&M and Mizzou move over to the ACC.

I am not a fan of Texas joining the SEC. Our loyalties should be with A&M since they came over wanting to be the only school in the SEC from Texas. Where ever Texas goes/has been, there's always been problems (just ask the aggie fans).

IMO I still think the better move is to try to convince NCSU and VT to come over to the SEC.

I know the minority here wants us to go back into the ACC. I am for that too. But UNC is much like Texas (in the BIG12) , they've taken over and controlled the ACC. I think, I'd rather see Texas in the ACC so they can bitch slap UNC around.

Course the ACC is so watered down with the private schools that aren't very good in football, that adding a Texas or Oklahoma would automatically mean, Clemson would not big the big cheese in football anymore...too bad for Dabo if this happens.

Best case in my judgement would be to tell Texas and OU no...if not A&M and Mizzou to the ACC...which might have the ACC calling us, UGA or UF...who knows?

OT: Background check turn around?

I can retire from the Fire Department this month. I applied for a management position for BMW in Spartanburg. I received a conditional offer, pending the background and drug screen. What is the typical turn around on something like that? I have not applied for a job since 1995, so I'm out of the loop on this. I'm sure it hasn't been long enough yet. But, I'm little kid excited to start something new.

Braves 🆚 Brewers 8/01/21 Makeover Finale Lineup

Welcome to another edition of Gamecock Central Braves Baseball ⚾️ Chat 💬. I am your host @Pfunk Cock along with a plethora of regular participants in the chat. Another special shout-out and thank you 🙏🏿 to @Wildbunch2 for a wonderful job of hosting last evening and bringing home the win. 😎. I will try my best to live up to those standard and continue our winning ways. Today they will again try to right the ship and even their record on the season.

The makeover lineup takes another look as Albies will leadoff for the first time this season. The Braves will lean heavy on the right hand hitting lineup as Pederson will have the day off against left hand pitcher with Heredia manning centerfield. The Braves defeated Anderson 5-1 earlier this season in Milwaukee but that was with Acuna, Ozuna and D’Arnaud. Will the makeover lineup make a difference? Well let’s just say there was a serious reshuffle and the lineup has tremendous power and really looks potent. Newly acquired Soler will bat second and Swanson back up to the 5 hole. The newly resurrected Swanson has been swinging a sweet stick these days as he hit his 2nd Grand slam since the All star break and now has 20 and nearly 60 RBI. That is a lot for any pitcher to maneuver with so many hitters catching fire. The Braves will counter with Charlie Morton who has been magnificent this season for the Braves. He has been the ace and an ace is what the Braves need now. Hopefully he has his Ace game today as it is time for the team to put together a long streak. The surge starts today bad try e quick home-stand ends and The Hank Aaron celebration weekend commences.
