We beat the bet line, you don't know what a realistic expectation in year one is. We beat what in based observers thought we could, that's growth, we've been improving and if we continue to good things are in store. If we grow every year then we will be what you want us to be in 4 years, if we turn over the staff every season until I've hits the lottery we'll never be relevant because all we'll have is one fluke season if that!
at least you're relying on ifs instead of the other poster who's already proclaiming Beamer a success.
It's really simple Beamer already beat the spread, the bowl trip is still available, special teams and defense have been good all season and the offense made a huge jump last night. So how about we simplify, of we go bowling when we were supposed to win 3, will you shut up and get behind Beamer until there is any indication that we aren't improving because that's what we've done so far.
Judging a QB by what he does in garbage time is simply shortsighted. Positive or negative.
So now you think the coaches weren't doing everything possible to win? We're the only program in college football history to bring in a former member of the coaching staff at QB with 97 seconds left and no time outs and win a game on the final drive.
Jason admitted he came here out of shape and rusty, because he didn't play the previous season. At this point it had been almost two years since he started a game.
I like JB, watched his mechanics and field awareness on the available tape that was out there from St Francis. Along with having to work himself into shape and learn a new offense, he had to adjust to the talent difference between St Fran and the SEC.
Alshon was a talented WR who took four games to start (at an easier position), I'm not sure why people are upset it took JB this long.
If they'd started him before he was ready and not set up for success the whiners would've been still slamming him because he came from a D3 team. Read the posts, before this game there were plenty of negative comments about him.
He's worked hard to get to this point. Hopefully he (and the team) build on this and play well next week.
Whether it's garbage time or game playing time... You make the best of your playing time and if you're playing against 2nd, 3rd string or the towel boy and you can't show off your talent then, you're not going to get much of a look...

At the time Zeb joined the team at the start of the season, Brown had a chance to show what he could do and wasn't ready for the next level.. Both you and I were not at these practices, but I trust the coaches made the right call at the time...

I like Beamer. I am simply suggesting Brown should have received an earlier shot given that Zeb can't move and the OL couldn't block. Are you honestly going to tell me that you believe we had a better shot against A&M with Zeb?
Is that what I said? I said it's all about the trend, the trends been good, and that's all we have to go off. If we have an 11 win season and we revert to a 7, that's not cause to fire him, right now we have a guy that has already equaled our conference record last year in fewer games, beat our total record from two years ago and last year and had just orchestrated the most complete game we've played against a team with a pulse in at least seven years.

That's what you're asking others to do. He overachieved one preseason expectation and you're saying everyone should hop on the wagon. So logically if the reverse happened then everyone should hop off the wagon, right?
Or could the right answer be much more complex than what you're suggesting?
My argument is the latter. That you're trying to simplify something complex into very simple terms. Yes, we have overachieved from our Vegas win totals. But is that a result of good coaching? Or did Vegas just get it it wrong and our opposition end up being much weaker than expected.
Florida's win total was 9, and I don't think anyone truly believes they're as good as that projection right now.
The HBC & Coach Beamer talked on the night of Carolina Calls and again before the game. Coach & Wife Jerri Spurrier are class acts and am sure they want Coach Beamer, The staff, and Team to Succeed at every turn, Being at Carolina those years were some of their fondest memories, on the field, in the classroom, and in the community experiences for their whole family. It was a great night for all and only the beginning for Coach Beamer a Born Leader, Staff, and Gamecock Nation. The Best is Yet to come...We were fortunate to have the Spurrier's and again have been blessed to have a Leader, like Coach Beamer, his family, and staff. A Great Time to be Gamecock... Gooo Cocks!!!

Be serious. JB deserves credit for putting in the extra work. Per Beamer JB was in the offices late every night talking with the coaches, asking questions, watching film, etc.
Why can't everyone be happy for the kid, and be happy with the win?
I swear, we have some of the most miserable posters around. If he'd started earlier and struggled, you'd be at the head of the line with the other miserables toting torches and pitchforks complaining.
If he thinks we were well coached against Troy, ECU, Kentucky, Tennessee, etc. then it would be a huge hit to his credibility.

Agreed. I only know what is said by the coaches and what I see. I feel based on what I have seen that he gives us our best chance of winning. I believe Beamer when he said he wasn't ready and I really believe that he believes that.
We had nothing to lose by giving him at shot at A&M, particularly with Zeb / our OL.
No to your first question but coaches aren't always correct. I am thrilled Beamer gave him a shot last night.

Wrong. There are NOT "8 games" that indicate that. Nobody gets fired for winning games, and he won four of those 8. Were competitive against Kentucky. And we looked bad against 2 very very good teams, which should surprise nobody. The only time were really looked unprepared was against Tennessee in the first quarter, and they played better after that.

People get fired all the time when winning. Tom Herman who constantly gets mentioned by you guys got fired at 7-3.

Yep. Defense and special teams are much improved. Offense looked better last night than it has in years.
When you can run the ball things change. Had we been one dimensional like in previous games then things are different last night. Fact is the oline pushed uf around upfront all game and thats where the difference was.
Really looked like the OL finally had a feel for the zone blocking, first big run by white showed what that could do when you block it right and we even had one whiff but everyone what got huge movement and the receivers blocked well downfield. Definitely works better than trying the speed against the 4-2-5 with wide alignment, like Florida tried
