I just don't want to hire a coach that reaches his pinnacle in 2-3 years and goes downhill from there. (The Spurrier- Holtz Syndrome). Landon Powell is not a Darren Horn or a Mark Kingston. He won the conference championship in his second year. He was the #2 rated high school baseball player in America in the 11th grade. His team had 7 all conference players on this years team and played in the Div. II CWS. One of his teams won the CWS. He played in the major leagues for a short time. As for the small college vs. SEC concern. He spent four years playing for one of the best college coaches in the game and in the S.E.C. He knows how it works and would bring a passion to coach where he played. He's young, hungry and is national coach of the year material in Div. II He, also, has to be one hell of a recruiter, with 7 all conference players on one team.
