I can't say I really read any previews about the West this off season at any length but I still don't understand how MSU was picked to finish last (or close) with Dak and AU was picked to win the SEC by quite a few people with ?? as their QB. Don't get it. And, that horseshoe has been firmly planted since at least 2010, but it is starting to show....

Well, the announcers last night talked about several teams being over hyped this year and Auburn was one of them. They basically said the same thing as you did above.
