Calhoun County (SC) WR signee Alshon Jeffrey is expecting the results of his latest test score in the next few days. If the score is where it needs to be, he could alright to enroll next month. If not, other options will be looked at including taking another class this summer in an effort to raise his core GPA. As you know, NCAA eligibility works off of a sliding scale.

I hear out of the four Summer I enrollees, D.J. Swearinger and Corey Addison have been doing well early. Not to say the others have not, but those two were mentioned to me as far as the seven-on-sevens go.

2010 Football Recruiting

It looks as though Matthews (NC) Weddington lineman Darius Kilgo and Charlotte (NC) Ardrey Kell DE/LB Prince Shembo are not going to be takes for South Carolina at this time.

Jacksonville (FL) Robert E. Lee OL Tramell Williams will be on South Carolina's campus later today. He is scheduled to visit Illinois tomorrow and possibly have a decision by Friday. However, I cannot rule out the possibility of an earlier commitment from him with a great visit to Columbia based on what I have been hearing. Any concerns he had about South Carolina gaining a commitment from A.J. Cann have been completely alleviated; in fact, Cann has made contact with Williams during the recruiting process and the feedback has been positive. Williams does like the Illini, but I believe the proximity of USC to his home as well as his relationship with USC's coaching staff should win out in the end.

Calhoun County (SC) OL Eric Mack will visit South Carolina Wednesday morning and will be joined by his mother and coach Walter Wilson. He should arrive at around 10:00 a.m. or so. The in-state OL is obviously a big priority for the Gamecocks and the staff is hopeful that a good visit will go a long way towards helping Mack ultimately choose the Gamecocks.

Tallahassee (FL) Lincoln QB Ryan White is a prospect that South Carolina likes as an athlete. I caught up with him and he recently spoke with USC coach Jay Graham. White really wants to prove this season that he can play QB, where he is drawing interest from Georgia Tech, Indiana, East Carolina, and others. He also would not mind playing wide receiver. He might take some visits later in the summer.

I spoke with Valdosta (GA) OL Ed Christian, who has been committed to Florida State for a while. Eric Wolford recently extended an offer to Christian and the big man is interested in looking at the Gamecocks. While he is still firm to FSU, he would like to take five official visits to be sure and Carolina could receive one of those in the future, possibly.

Early Look

Christian's teammate from 2011, DB Tyler Hunter, has an early top three of Georgia, FSU, and Florida. South Carolina has verbally offered.

Marietta (GA) Kell DB Brian Randolph should be one of the top DB prospects in the Southeast for the Class of 2011. He is a big safety that can run and is a smart player. I spoke with a source close to him who said that he expected every SEC and ACC school to offer, and lots of those programs have already extended verbal offers. South Carolina is one, and I hear Randolph could be on campus for the Gamecocks in July.

The Class of 2012 holds a special prospect in Lexington (SC) DB Shaq Roland. The 6'1 athlete is a standout basketball player as well, and will draw looks from programs in both sports. I hear South Carolina likes him a great deal and he should receive a written offer in September of his junior year.

Basketball Recruiting

Decatur (GA) Greenforest Christian wing Jamail Jones is a 2010 prospect that the USC staff likes a lot. He took some visits last month and is expected to be in attendance at USC's Elite Camp in August. Coach Cypheus Bunton is the recruiter of record for Jones. He is from Georgia but is transferring to Montverde in Florida for the 2009 season, and he will not reclassify.
