Inviting LSU is consistent with the NIT's explanation for not inviting USC. USC was, in essence, a .500 club because the NIT did not count a Div II win against Limestone in December. Carolina's record goes from 17-16 to 16-16 in the eyes of the NIT. No winning record, no invite.
LSU had a winning record.
