I might be part of the problem.I mostly use my card,I don’t have cash normally, but when I do use it and I get change back, all it does is sit in my truck.I got at least $15 in change in it.About the only time I get cash is when I go golfing, cheaper to pay cash than a card and when I pay for something at home and my kids give me cash back. When I have some cash I’ll use it and when I get the change back it goes in the cup holder.I find this interesting. I've completely stopped carrying cash for some time now - I can count on one hand the times I've used it in the last three years. I've always thought I was "normal" and that most people had shifted that way.
As a banker, is that what you're seeing (i.e., more people going cashless)? A coin shortage completely surprises me simply because I can't imagine enough people using them.
