Simone Biles pulls out of the team competition. It's unknown at this point if she will compete in the individual events.

She has NOWHERE near the heart of Willis Reed!! She quit because she knew she already had made, and then this would give her even MORE millions!!

Ya know I really didnt think too much about her issues at the time. Kinda like do what you have to do. But then I saw an interview that had several athletes from several sports describing the difficulty of dealing with pressure as if they were some kinda victim of society. And these were not household names. Now that came across as pretty pathetic. The way they portrayed it, you would think their generation is experiencing something no other generation has... at least that's what they'd like you to believe. I keep telling myself there are still some athletes out there that actually excel under the same conditions and if the pressure does become overwhelming, they dont whine about it.

Spatial disorientation is very seldom a permanent condition. It is typically over within a few minutes to a few days. Not really that difficult to understand.

Well the risk is still there that she could be injured. It’s going to be difficult to watch for those concerned about those things.

How convenient
As I proposed to someone else who is skeptical. I will teach you how to take off and land a small plane and then will find an airfield that will allow you to solo. Take off over the ocean in IFR conditions and see how that goes for you. If its just "convenient" you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

If you can do that, Olympic GOLD is yours!!

Been flying since I was 13 and have had my license since 17. I have experienced spatial disorientation at least twice....thankfully both were Type III and I realized I was experiencing it and more thankfully my dad was in the cockpit with me to help me get my way out of it. Dad flew an F-4 in the USAF and knew all about it.

Tough door
I dont see where he was referenced as the "GOAT" of Tennis?? I must have missed that one!!
Actually he's widely considered one of the GOATs of tennis actually. When it's all said and done with the Big 3 careers( Djokovic, Nadal, Federer) end he will likely be on top when it comes to slams and career achievements.

She untwisted herself I guess. The "GOAT" conversation will never be about her unless you're talking about those who self proclaimed to be the GOAT when they actually weren't.

On a different note, did y'all see the Charleston chick throw the black power sign up at the games? I see it on the news here now.
No, I didn't see that but I did see a girl that won a medal that was crossing her arms which mean she was at the cross section of something, I think it had something to do with sexual orientation but I don't know. However, she did admit she was gay. I'm not sure what it meant.

Well let's see, if you have full instrumentation it shouldn't be all that difficult. Trust your instruments. They teach this at IFR flight school. It's generally called flying the bag. At some point in her career she may have had this before. If so, she got some training or advice on dealing with this. After all, she has been a gymnast all her life. I am sure it is the equivalent of an IFR rating. The twisties excuse only surfaced after backlash about her quitting on her teamates. You can spin it all you want to. As for flying IFR, many people who have received training can do it. Airline pilots, military pilots and many recreational pilots are IFR certified. Your offer is as intelligent as me telling you to go do a simple vault. If you don't have the training your chance of success isn't very high. If you do, the odds go up considerably. She is a pro. She has had the training. She annointed herself the goat with a tattoo, screwed up her performance and decided to quit. BTW.. I don't know of many athletes who have a goat tattoo. If you are the GOAT, you don't need to advertise it.

Name me someone who’s gymnastics career is greater than Biles career? I will wait in anticipation of who you come up with.
They can't because they saw a headline and have already made up their mind about something they don't follow .

As I see it, Biles is the most decorated gymnast of all time, despite being one of the most hyped and marketed athletes going into Rio she still had 4 gold medals and 1 bronze medal performance out of a possible so 5 medals in a max 6 events. One of the best performances ever in a single Olympics, more that even Nadia and every other gymnast listed throughout this thread has done.

She has won championships with broken toes and with kidney stones. She also came from a broken home with a lot of drama with her birth parents and siblings. She has anchored the US gymnastics team for the past 8 years despite being the victim of sexual abuse that was being covered up by the same people she had helped make look good for the better part of a decade.

Even at these Olympics she managed to land a vault despite not being in the right mindset and the difficulty was enough to keep team USA in medal contention. She has been nothing but supportive and and encouraging to the rest of Team USA in every event since she stepped down. She hasn't tried to make the situation all about her or become a victim. I see a young lady with a lot grit who has overcame a lot and still has succeeded anyway. I see no reason to question her dedication to her team or the sport because as history has shown she has gone above and beyond for US gymnastics even when they didn't have her back.

I am IFR certifed and when I fly in IFR conditions I don't take my eyes off the instruments....period. But if you know that much, you also know the adage regarding spacial disorientation...that there are two types of pilots, there are those who've had it and those who will get it.

The people with the strongest opinions about the whole thing seem to have little interest in the sport. It's some weird bitterness that I don't understand. Nobody knows what she is going through, and everything doesn't require a strong opinion. Michael Phelps, the GOAT, was supportive and understanding. I'm not making excuses for people being soft or whatever. I just really have no way of having a strong opinion about the thing. We're talking about a woman that has been anything but soft.

Djokovic had a meltdown and quit on his partner, and there doesn't seem to the same reaction.

And you know there are methods to deal with it. Pick a point and focus on that point. The other old adage is that there are old pilots and there are bold pilots but there are no old bold pilots. Here is hoping the number of your landings equal your takeoffs.

Djokovic is a PUNK for doing so. However I didnt see Djokovic on my TV, 24/7 and Representing MY country. making Miillons on TV commercials. So for ME, He is a punk, She is worse to me!! JUST my opinion, and for having one, i will be attacked viciously by the LEFT!!

Yeah and I believe he actually deserves more real criticism because he actually has a history of phoning it in when things don't go his way. I definitely feel for his partner because she lost out on some financial opportunity since they didn't medal.

Kurt Angle broke his neck in Olympic wrestling qualifying. He competed and won a gold medal wrestling with a broke neck. I may not be an Olympian, but I can still spot toughness when I see it.

Honestly Angle probably hasn’t been celebrated enough for the amount of courage he showed and still found a way to be the best.
There’s no glory in being tough anymore.

If you have Type III you can do so. If you have Type I that is not an option,

She doesn't have to risk her safety to appease anyone

You out there doing loops or something? I'm not a pilot, but a few of my friends are. My cousin is one of Carolina's pilots. I've never heard this talked about before. We've done a lot of flying over the last 30yrs. Grazed the top of a fence post in a pasture one time. A few other questionable moves as well. I'm sure it's possible to get what you're saying, but if it's happened to you twice, are you sure flying is the right thing for you to be doing? Just asking a serious question. Not being a butt.
