Today was the final time media will get to watch practice until December if the Gamecocks make a bowl game. We were able to watch the first 15 minutes of practice, which really didn't include a whole lot. A very, very quiet day compared to what we're used to seeing.
The team will start its Coastal prep soon after two weeks of solely focusing on player development.
The team did some special team and position work to warm up, then did a turnover circuit—forcing takeaways for the defense and protecting the ball offensively—before doing some more position work.
Some observations from what we saw today, and I'll reiterate there wasn't a lot to glean from today's periods we got to see:
--Some yellow jerseys: Eldridge Thompson, Jaylin Dickerson doing side work, J.T. Ibe and Rosendo Louis. The good news on Ibe and Louis is they weren't being held out of practice. They were doing individual non-contact drills. Muschamp said this week that he hoped Ibe would be cleared for some "skeleton work" soon, and it looks like he has been. Louis was participating and had a big brace on his shoulder.
--Scouts from the Los Angeles Rams, Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals were all on-hand today.
--Joseph Charlton, unsurprisingly, was taking reps with the first-team punt unit. Michael Almond was also kicking.
--No new players were competing at punt return, and it was a much slimmer group that what we're used to seeing. I only saw Bryan Edwards, Nick Harvey and Josh Vann taking some reps back there. That's not to say Keisean Nixon and Jam Williams haven't been, but I didn't seen them today.
--Josh Belk, who had his first full-go practice Wednesday, was off to the side in full pads doing some individual blocking drills and workouts.
--Today was the first time I really got to watch Javon Kinlaw. I know a lot's been made of him, and he looks stronger and quicker than he did last year. He was going first in all the defensive drills with Keir Thomas behind him. Kobe Smith, J.J. Enagbare and M.J. Webb filed in behind that.
