is not good. Martin has had five years to build a program and right now, the only player that could start for a few of the SEC teams is Silva. Some of our starters couldn't start for Coastal Carolina or Wofford. Personally, I like Martin, his truthfulness, discipline, solid coaching fundamentals, etc. , but the most important thing he lacks is the ability to recruit top talent to USC. Next year he has a cast off 4 star with a lot of baggage coming from crooked Louisville (if he sticks with the team until next year) and a local 3 star to help bolster up the squad. I don't for expect very much improvement unless one or two others learn how to play basketball by next season which is doubtful.
Maybe it's getting close to time for Frank to move on and maybe Tanner can push the right button on a new hire.

Does something no one has ever done here less than a year ago and people still want to run him off. Blue bloods dominate recruiting every year, that hasn't changed, our Final 4 run should pay dividends in the next couple of years. We could do no better than Frank Martin. He has earned the right to stay here for a long while.

Have you ever heard of a guy named Tony Bennet? I live in Charlottesville and being able to see first hand what he has built makes me hopeful for us. He does it with team identity, defense and guys that are going to be there for four years. He does not recruit a lot of blue chip players because his system requires guys to buy in and develop in order for it to be effective. They're about to be ranked #1 in the country, by the way... with ZERO star players. Give Frank credit: he is doing it different that UK, Duke, etc.

Its a different way of doing things and you have to work harder to see the beauty of it.

Wow. I really hope you’re joking, but I guess you’re not. Ha

Apparently there is several big time recruits in SC in 2019. Hopefully he will get several

Great point. Correct me if I'm wrong but Kyle Guy and P.J. Dozier are the only McDonald's AA that either coach has signed at their current schools? This is CTB's 9th year at UVA, CFM's 6th year at USC. Pretty fascinating stuff. Frank & Tony do it their own way for sure.

That's what we need, a coach and staff that can man up to the Blue bloods and get some talent. The ONLY coach we ever had that had this ability was the great Frank Mc Guire. We have the resources, facilities, administration and fan base to compete with anybody in the country. Coaching just like sales, all you need are the right folks.

Yeah, if Frank had the success that Bennett is having we wouldn't be having this conversation. Recruiting doesn't necessarily mean you have to have all Blue Star recruits but you have to recruit guys that can play basketball and we do not have guys that can play basketball.

Explain yourself.

Just wondering, because judging solely by your post starting this thread I have a hard time believing anybody in the real world would put up with you for long.

Frank took over a program that won 10 games overall and 2 games in the SEC the previous year. Not only that, the former coach encouraged the only half-decent players on that team to go to another school. Despite all that, by year 5 he led us to the Final Four with wins over Duke and Florida to make it. We were a basket away from playing for the national title.

With all that in mind....I think Frank is allowed to have a mediocre year. Seriously.

Frank seems to be a really good guy. The players seem to like him and he has polished his image and avoided scandal.

Maybe a recruiting specialist should be hired? If there is coaching staff attrition, maybe this is what is needed. Is this type of hiring done?

Wow! Three hours, and none of them have called you a tater yet, OP. Congrats. The hive must be in a good mood today, because they normally resort to tater epithets when they hear the truth.

Last season we were ripping off our shirts because we got into the dance this year MANAFOLD wants Frank's resignation. They love you when you're winning, they hate you when you're losing, bottom line they always hate you.

My God you people kill me! We lose Thornwell, Notice, McKie, Dozier, Felder, Holden has been hurt and you think we should be beating people anyway.. You`re the kind of fan that probably thinks the women`s team should have beaten UConn and Miss. St. Totally unrealistic. We lose Thornwell, Notice, McKie, Dozier, Felder. Holden had been hurt. And some of you just expect us to keep on beating teams that are obviously more talented. IMO, Frank and staff get a complete pass this year if we don`t win another game. Hey, if you can`t support us this year, why don`t you start pulling for that powerhouse team in the upstate this year? The definition of a fair-weather fan.

Do you think our players are as good as his?

Why didn't you post this on Insider Forum ? I tell you why. You would had been blasted off the map. Really fire Martin after losing 3 KEY players 4 if you include Felder from last year schools history final four team run. That is why you are irrelevant as a Gamecock basketball fan . :p:p

Out of curiosity, what makes your opinion the "truth"?

No, not this year's roster. I agree with other posters, though. This years attrition has been really bad-- unsually bad. Dozier should have stayed, Felder should have behaved, injuries, etc. This years roster is a bit of an anomaly. Anyone calling for Martin's head probably does not have a high basketball IQ. Which is fine, I guess, because Tanner is smart enough to keep him.

But I will give you this: I don't think Martin is as good of a recruiter as Bennett. But niether of them are "killing it" because they don't need to. They have a different program approach.

Well, I can't really say too much right now, because weeks ago I said I wouldn't talk about Frank again as long as we were .500 or better. So I guess I'll see ya'll next Saturday.

If someone had kept their nose clean in the off-season, we wouldn't be having this debate. We don't have a quality PG, one who can shoot, drive, distribute to the right person at the right time, and contribute both ways for 30-35 minutes or so every game. Think of a quality PG as a front tire on a sports car, so with a flat one we're going very slow and very bumpy toward the merciful end of the season. Even so, if Silva, Kotsar, and Minaya return .... with our PG, wait till next year!

Not good. But not unexpected considering the hurdles this team has faced. Dozier shouldn’t have left. Not a soul that could come close to replacing Thornwell. Felder’s issues. Numerous injuries. Last years run made for higher expectations for the future. Now I won’t call last year a fluke, but let’s face facts. Last year you saw a team that got hot at the right time. As good as they ended up being, they never showed the prospect of being a final four team at any time through the season or SEC tournament.

Holy shit. Really? He took over the WORST Big 5 basketball program who hadn’t won an NCAA Tournament game since 1973 and TOOK THEM TO THE FINAL FOUR last year (where I was lucky enough to be there in person to witness it) and was 4 points away from playing for the National Championship and this is what you come up with? This was always a transition year (especially with the premature loss of Dozier and Felder being an idiot); it’s hard to have good chemistry with the amount of grad transfers, new guys, etc. We will be better next year, and Frank Martin will be our coach. If he doesn’t win another game this year; we would still have 64 wins over a three year span. Not good enough? Shut yo mouth.
