Upon the launch of Musk’s spaceship a couple years ago, I remember them saying there had been no major advances in the space program in several decades. So that’s how it works…the government gives breaks and subsidies for the private sector to develop the advancements, then the whole country benefits from it.
no other terrestrial body in our solar system, including the moon, is even remotely habitable. So this idea that the ultra rich are building an escape route for the elite to build their next mansions on is totally idiotic. The advancements will be to national defense and advancements in technology, which we will ALL benefit from.
as far as the “there are starving children in the world” argument…America and other first world nations went to starving African nations in the 80s and presented them with all sorts of farming equipment, showed them all the necessary farming techniques, and gave them many tons of seeds to get started. You know what happened, right? They ended up eating the seeds and were soon hungry again. Rich liberal celebrities came up with “Live Aid” that raised many millions of dollars to “feed the hungry” and produced that awful “we are the world song”. Most of the proceeds didn’t even go toward the intended recipients and what did caused so much infighting and violence that the hunger problem was actually made WORSE. So I hardly see how it’s incumbent on a few super rich guys to “feed the starving”.
my problem with Bezos is that he’s running the largest monopoly in world history and is using his ownership of a major media outlet (The Washington Post) as a hedge against monopoly accusations. That kind of media manipulation should not be allowed. However, I have no problems with Branson or Musk. In the case of Elon Musk, I believe he is sincerely trying to HELP mankind.
