Spring Transfer Portal Tracker

After quarterback Braden Davis entered the transfer portal this afternoon, South Carolina is up to four players in the transfer portal since the spring window opened. Davis joins cornerback Anthony Rose, defensive tackle Demetrius Watson, and walk-on offensive lineman Colin Henrich.

Players can enter the portal through April 30th, but are still eligible to be signed by schools even after that deadline once they are already in the portal. This page will be continually updated as more transfers unfold.

Some big WBB names in the portal

Haley Van Lith at Louisville.
Lauren Betts at Stanford. She was the #1 rated recruit for the 2022 class and is 6’7.
Ashley Owusu at VT.
Nina Rickards at Florida.
Aicha Coulibaly at Auburn
Aneesha Morrow at DePaul
Lexi Donarski at Iowa St
To name a few

Dawn won’t have interest in all of them. I do believe she would like some post depth and a guard that can shoot. Bree Hall and Raven Johnson will likely start at 1-2 guards spots next season, but a zone buster off the bench is needed. Lauren Betts didn’t have a huge freshman year but her and Cardoso would make grabbing rebounds nearly impossible for opponents. I’m trying to check and around and see if Dawn has interest in any of these players.

Baseball at Kentucky Live Thread (Game One)

Game one of another SEC series starts for the Gamecocks tonight, this time in Lexington, Kentucky. South Carolina comes in 14-6 in SEC play and trying to turn around last weekend's series loss to Aubrun, while the Wildcats are reeling off the back of four straight SEC series losses, although are still a tick over .500 in the league at 11-10 in SEC play.

Here is South Carolina's lineup tonight, which still does not feature injured infielders Talmadge LeCroy, Braylen Wimmer or Will McGillis:

Dylan Brewer - CF
Michael Braswell - SS
Ethan Petry - RF
Cole Messina - 3B
Caleb Denny - LF
Gavin Casas - 1B
Jonathan French - C
Carson Hornung - DH
Will Tippett - 2B

Will Sanders - P

Baseball at Winthrop Live Thread

Saying hello from The Winthrop Ballpark, home of the world's largest batter's eye (or so I'm told) and the site of tonight's midweek matchup between the Gamecocks and Eagles.

Eli Jones is starting on the mound for South Carolina, but he will almost surely be on a pitch count with another SEC series starting in two days. Expecting to see Dylan Eskew for a bit out of the bullpen, maybe Sam Simpson and anyone else the Gamecocks can use without dipping into the high leverage arms.

Mark Kingston is also suspended tonight after his ejection on Sunday, so here is the lineup that acting head coach Monte Lee put out there:

Dylan Brewer - LF
Michael Braswell - SS
Ethan Petry- RF
Cole Messina - 3B
Gavin Casas - 1B
Caleb Denny - LF
Jonathan French - C
Carson Horung - DH
Will Tippett - 2B

Eli Jones - P

Travian Robertson Story

Hey everyone, I talked to former South Carolina kicker Mark Fleetwood about Travian Robertson last night, and how Fleetwood invited Robertson to a suburban Atlanta high school for a meeting in 2015 that ended up starting his coaching career.

Baseball at Winthrop story

Quotes from acting head coach Monte Lee and Jonathan French on the 6-1 road win at Winthrop.

Lee also said that Talmadge LeCroy will travel to Lexington this weekend and will workout tomorrow to determine how big of a role he can have.

Baseball vs. Auburn Live Thread (Game Two)

Checking in from Founders Park for game two of the series, where there's more bad news for South Carolina before we've even started. Braylen Wimmer is not in the lineup after his hamstring injury last night, and Talmadge LeCroy is not either. Gamecocks are about as thin as possible on the infield right now, starting Cole Messina at third base today. That puts Jonathan French back in the lineup, and also Caleb Denny takes Evan Stone's spot after his two hits off the bench yesterday.

New lead-off hitter as well with Wimmer's absence juggling the top of the lineup, now Carson Hornung is taking the lead-off spot. Here is your full lineup for the 4 p.m. first pitch on SEC Network+

Carson Hornung - DH
Dylan Brewer - CF
Ethan Petry - RF
Cole Messina - 3B
Michael Braswell - SS
Gavin Casas - 1B
Caleb Denny - LF
Jonathan French - C
Will Tippett - 2B

Jack Mahoney - P
