Important Week 1 game visit update on top 2024 safety target Kelvin Hunter

This afternoon, I had an excellent conversation with South Carolina Class of 2024 safety target Kelvin Hunter, a blazing-fast athlete that runs a 4.4 40-yard dash hailing from the West Florence Knights, a Palmetto State powerhouse occupying the Pee Dee region of this great state. The first cousin of Gamecocks' star defensive back Cam Smith confirmed with me that he will be in attendance for South Carolina's 7:30 primetime 'bout with the Georgia State Panthers on Saturday, September 3rd.

The student-athlete with six offers said on record last time we spoke that of his six offers from Clemson, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Virginia Tech, he had trimmed down his list to the Chanticleers, Gamecocks, and Hokies. However, he told me this afternoon that his top two has now been trimmed to Coastal Carolina and South Carolina (for now). He looks forward to watching his cousin play and what he feels should be an improved South Carolina squad, and it's certainly possible that he could sign with the Garnet and Black in the near future.

In the meantime, he's balling out with the Knights, who are 2-0 with victories over Lexington and Lake City. Gamecocks' fans, let's give Kelvin Hunter and all of South Carolina's prospective student-athletes a warm welcome as they enter Williams-Brice Stadium in what should (hopefully) be a win for the Gamecocks. Also, I hope you have an excellent Labor Day weekend!

I will have a follow-up conversation with Hunter following his visit to South Carolina to see what may have made the Gamecocks stand out even further in his recruitment after he makes the short, 83-mile trip southwest to the "Capital City" for the weekend.

Update on top four-star 2024 Georgia RB Jayden Scott

5-foot-10, 190-pound running back Jayden Scott (Stockbridge High School, Stockbridge, Georgia) has confirmed that he will be in attendance for South Carolina's primetime bout with Shawn Elliott's Georgia State Panthers under the "Saturday Night Lights" in Columbia, South Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

The four-star with incredible abilities that spent time with top Gamecocks' target, Rivals No. 1 linebacker in the United States Sammy Brown, at the Rivals Atlanta Camp this summer.

Scott said that Shane Beamer's Gamecocks, Rutgers, and Wake Forest are recruiting him the hardest at this point, followed by North Carolina and Pitt.

Considering the Gamecocks rising heat level on the recruiting trail and the aftermentioned group of Big 10 and ACC competitors, it's certainly possible that Scott could suit up for South Carolina, and running backs coach Montario Hardesty and head coach Shane Beamer should certainly be able to continually sell the student-athlete on the great virtues of playing with the Garnet and Black from a humble, approachable, family-first perspective that has been winning over Class of 2023 (and 2024) recruits throughout the summer.

I look forward to having a follow-up conversation with Scott following his visit to South Carolina Tuesday, and hopefully, we will chat after the Gamecocks chalk up a second straight season-opening win under Beamer behind a great performance from QB Spencer Rattler and a hard-hitting, smash mouth defense.

Regardless, it seems apparent that Beamer, his staff, and the culture that they are establishing within the Gamecocks' program is winning over prospects both in in the Palmetto State, the southeastern region, and beyond.

Gamecocks fans, I hope you have an excellent Labor Day weekend, and let's give the recruits a warm welcome to the Capital City!
