Alert for Friday....

I don't really see where it would be bad optics. Bad optics for whom? Perceived by whom? The teams want to play. I guarantee the players want to play. The fans most definitely want them to play.

I think the bad optics would be related to saying it's not safe enough to play any other Fall sports, but it is safe enough to play the one that makes everyone but the players millions of dollars. The NCAA already gets enough garbage for not paying players (which I think is mostly an NFL age restriction problem, but that's for another thread). Imagine how much outrage there would be if they put the players' health at risk - essentially just to make money.

I'm fine getting my money back. Probably was only going to tailgate anyway. Too many drunk and stupid people in the stadium to trust my and my family's life.

The NCAA Board of Governors is not comprised of doctors. MLB started yesterday. NBA is set to restart. NFL is on pace for playing. So, nobody is saying it's totally unsafe to play sports.

Besides, I'm certain nobody would be forced to play. I'm equally certain the NCAA would grant an extra year of eligibility for players who sat out this season over fears of the virus.

I am not arguing for there to be a season. And I'm sure the P5 would follow suit and cancel the football season if they do vote to cancel fall championships. But I think it was politically-tinged to say it would be bad optics for the P5 to move ahead with football should other sports be canceled.

I'm fine swapping the seven trips to WB for an air conditioned seat in front of the 65" HDTV in my great room. Beer is cheap, lines are short, and food is affordable. Not to mention sitting on Bluff Rd in traffic two hours each home game. I'll get to keep my $2,000 Plus dollars for four tickets/YES fees/parking. Throw in gas and tailgate costs? Getting into the $500-600 range in additional savings.

The only bad optics I see would be the power grab by the NCAA. They know they have lost control over football and this is a perfect scenario to bring it back under their thumb.

I am not ignorant of the “risks”. There is a new normal developing that I believe will go on for at least 1-2 more years if not longer. This is JMHO based on my doctors thoughts (lung transplant specialist and my bone marrow oncology team of specialist) and what the government is telling my wife to expect as a DoD employee.

I don’t see how we can sustain as a country if things don’t begin to open back up sooner than later. At some point we will have to accept the risks and either choose to move forward or bunker down.

So, I hope that schools/colleges/jobs all open up pretty soon. I am glad that the pro sports are beginning. I also think college could follow a similar path.

Why? Because, we as a country are moving eerily close to a dystopian society.

I'm a big mask wearer and supporter. Started a thread back in March pushing masks and got eviscerated. With a family member having an immune problems, it only makes sense for me, and I think it makes sense for everyone. Wear a mask, get out there.

As for the dystopian society thing, I tend to agree. For the first time since this started, a trip to Walmart yesterday felt like a training session for robots to learn about human feelings. And failing. From the start, a screaming tirade by a woman about wearing a mask, to the total lack of eye contact, acknowledgement, even spacing, from customers and employees, it had a weird feel to it. But oddly, I owe that not only to Covid, but this awful division in the country. That's two unpleasant challenges to deal with at the same time. Is the person next you a threat because of health or their politics? Will my innocent actions put me in categories which impact how I am perceived? Which freaking aisle direction and why should I care because no one is abiding by it?

It is odd out there.

I have a severely compromised immune system from cancer treatments years ago. My family hates masks but wear them to protect me. I am grateful. We have had many discussions in my house. We concluded that if masks really worked hospitals would not restrict people from coming in to support loved ones having surgery, getting chemotherapy, accident victims, etc... But, we as a family wear them nonetheless out of an abundance of caution.

It’s very odd out there.

When churches are told when and how they can worship but you have huge street parties it’s lunacy.

When no one speaks out against the rioters and lack of masks or social distancing but tell you how to walk through a grocery store is ridiculous.

When mayors who have supported the BLM movement get their houses vandalized (Olympia and Oakland) it’s out of control.

I never thought I would ever see the day that going to a game would cost that much for a family of four. I have a ticket from the 1972 Clemson / Carolina game played at Clemson. It was raining and sleeting that day and I went to the game with a number of friends. As we entered the gate the person collecting the tickets just motioned for us to enter the stadium and didn't even check for tickets. The price of that ticket was $7.00, $7.00 mind you. And as I said above I still have that ticket today.

You’ve got it all wrong. When you start these kind of posts you’re supposed to say:

“Well back in my day ...”

The only thing that moves faster than the speed of light is the speed of life.

When I was 18, I thought I was misunderstood. When I was thirty, I started figuring out what I misunderstood. At fifty, I tried to become a little more understanding. Now, these days, I just don't understand. They are all "my days" though, and the beauty of aging is you learn you don't have all the answers, but you have a lot more life experience to draw upon. It's something I didn't have at 18, 30, or 50.

If we had taken everything seriously early on like Hong Kong, South Korea, etc., we would be in much better shape today.

IMO, it all goes back to too many Americans not understanding that with their "rights" come responsibilities. Sure, you have a "right" to go barefaced, but is that behaving in a responsible manner?

They kicked the decision down the road. How long can they wait?
I took the Aug 1st deferment in paying for my FB tickets cuz I wanted to see if they'd actually play WITH fans in stands before I send them my $$ and wait for refunds. That's this Friday and still no word.

So one should conform to doing what everyone else’s is doing out of responsibility? I’m not sure what responsibility you speak of. I don’t see wearing a mask as a sign of communism, I just flat out don’t believe half of them do shit and I flat out don’t want to wear one. That is my right.

Also, if you are wearing a mask shouldn't you wear goggles too. What protects your eyes, which is the easiest entry on the body. Just sayin... Goggles are cool.

Yes, we all have that right, but we have the responsibility to not get in someone's face without one on, especially if that someone objects..

To be fair, my glasses tend to fog up when I'm wearing a mask.

I'm far from an expert, but I would think that one who is severely immunocompromised who needs to venture out would probably do well to wear goggles or one of those plastic see-through face coverings if there's a chance they could get too close to someone else.
