We may have overachieved in one game last year. That's hardly a season. But we paid a price for dominating UF the way we did with what is too common in a let down loss after a big win the following week to Mizzou by three points. We also had our chance to beat UK earlier in the season with a six point loss but that was before we started showing concrete improvement. If you didnt see improvement on the field last year I dont know what to tell you. I did.
Of course we had some improvement last year. But it many ways we still overachieved. The QB position by itself was a mess.
Both things can be true. In fact, it sort of goes without saying.
The team last year and their on field actions didn't provide evidence of a team that was going to all of a sudden win 8 games this year. This is a project and it's going to take a few more years to have a solid team all the way around .
I made no such claim we would win 8 games this year. In fact I made no mention of wins and losses when it comes to seeing improvement on the field.
In the first 6 games last year, we rushed for 613 yards. That includes two OOC opponents that should be considered lesser opponents. In the last 6 games, we rushed for 905 yards with two OOC opponents of much higher caliber. The line clearly improved. Now although I'm all that happy we have taken a step backwards at those positions this year, I am hopeful they can turn it around. The UK game would be a good place to see that improvement. It may be vital to get at 6 wins.
I didn't say you claimed we'd win 8 games. Gee whiz.
I said that last year we overachieved- which we did. That led some people think this year would automatically be better. If they thought that, they were wrong and didn't appreciate the reality of how fortunate we were last year to win 7.
I said the QB situation last year was a mess so winning a bowl game with that situation was really good and evidence of the over-achieving.
Kentucky is a lot better than we are and are in a better position overall than we are this year. They are competing for the top 2 positions in the SEC East. We aren't. That doesn't mean Kentucky is a top 10 team. I don't know,. Maybe they are a top 20 team at best. We aren't. That said, I hope we can make it a 4th quarter game and see what happens.
Anyone thinking this year was going be a big step forward in improvement from last year was fooling themselves. This team has some holes that will take time to fix.
We are going to disagree on overachieving last year. Had we not shown improvement I would probably agree with you. I will say we probably beat expectations but that's not overachieving. We earned a bowl. Period. And imo, calling it overachieving sounds like an excuse for crap play this year.
I dont know who these people are that thought we would see big improvement from last year. All I said was I would expect us to build on the improvement we made. That's not even asking that much. It's not like I'm asking for more Ws. If we continue to take a step backwards at the start of a season after making progress the year before, Beamer is in big trouble.

How about let's see how much or in what areas we improved when we have 10-11 games under our belt?
Last year at this time we had lost to Georgia and Kentucky and won against Eastern Illinois and ECU.
That seems fair to me instead of trying to make that determination after 4 games.
We could win 6 games this year but actually be a better team at the end of the year. Or we could win 6 and be much worse. We don't know.
