If we are going to have a playoff system to determine the National Champion, we need to change how the system is currently being run....we need to mirror the NFL....reduce the number of conference games to 6...that leaves 6 OOC games that must be played....those 6 games must be teams in the other major conferences....all games count towards determining the conference champions....this would eliminate SOS, because most schedules should be pretty equal....in the end the top 12 teams make the playoffs...2 teams from each major conference, east and west champion....and 2 wild card teams.....set up the playoffs similar to the NFL....over time this would make the conferences similar in SOS, and not 1 or 2 conferences suffering because they play harder schedules...

Agree, 100 pct.1 team playing in the national title game wouldn't have went 13-0 with our schedule.

The system is flawed, but it is much better than it has been. Currently the best way to get in the playoff is to be undefeated and the best way to go undefeated is to have an easy schedule. There is no incentive for scheduling an OOC power because it could derail your entire season. Because of this we are seeing a decrease in big OOC matchups.

I think the best way to determine a true national champion is take the champion of each conference and 1 at large (being the highest ranked non conference champion - or the ND rule, lol). Thats 12 teams and the top 4 teams get a bye for the fist round. This gives every FCS team a chance to win it all (like the basketball tourney). Losses to strong OOC teams do not hurt you. ESPN can still have the poll shows for the top 4. And keep the bow games for everyone else (like an NIT)

Well, since the College Football Playoff has Clemson playing Alabama for the national championship, and the BCS would have had Clemson playing Alabama for the national championship, and "the old bowl system" would have already crowned Clemson as national champions, I guess you have to come up with some way of rationalizing the irrational. Good job! Good effort!

If the NCAA HAD ANY BALLS and any actual control over ANYTHING- what they need to do is make every team JOIN A CONFERENCE- OK, Notre Dame, you wan to be independent? Have fun with that, you are no longer eligible for the playoffs or bowl games. Watch how fast they fall in line!

Every conference has a championship game= ROUND ONE OF THE PLAYOFFS! That was the intent of the NCAA for decades, but so many conferences keep dicking around with it, dropping their CGs... oh, you don't want to do a CG? Have fun with that, you are no longer legible to participate in the playoffs or bowl games.

The top 4 teams after the CGs get into the playoffs- keep the playoff the same.

further changes/ more details?
Continue massive overhaul of conferences.
Fewer but Bigger conferences
we know the term "Power 5" (or, power FOUR maybe?)? Make it mean something- 4 or 5 big conferences, the teams who do not qualify to be in one? Should be a different level of football. Something between FBS and FCS. They already are. Honestly... Did you REALLY think Houston... Or Memphis were getting into the playoffs? At any point? What about Boise? Seemed like they went undefeated for a DECADE and never made a legit push for the CG... 95% of the teams NOT in a power 5 conf do not deserve a shot to play in the playoff. The 5% that do?... Let them join a power 5!

If it is 4 conferences? Conference championships- round 1, champs go on to the same playoff we have.

5 conf? Conference championships- round 1, champs and 1 "wild card"/ at large get in (maybe the "wild card"= best from the group of D 1 schools that was left out of the power 5? Just to be fair...). Top 2 teams- bye in rd 1. Then we have a 4 team playoff with the remaining. Only two teams wind up playing an extra game.

Done, fair, sensible, easy... Never gonna happen! Too many people are too scared to make real changes to CFB, scared they will lose money!

If those teams can't win their conf, they should not be in the show.If your point is the Sec,no other team but Bama could beat the other top 8 teams in the country.Nobody else in the SEC could beat Clemson,Oklhoma,,Mich st,,OhioState,Iowa,Stanford.Notre Dame..Ole Miss, would get crushed..

Exactly! Have four of the pre-Christmas bowls be the play-in games to bring it down to eight, then top four New Year's Day bowls take it to four, etc. Four conferences with the best rolling 5-year record in the playoffs get the bye for the first game. No one gets to gripe about being left out. It's all objective, with no polls involved.

It's interesting that this year, there was really no legitimate gripe from any of the schools from the four represented conferences; the champions earned the right to go over any of those left out. Only Stanford has a real gripe, and rightly so.
