I remember as a kid the Tulane point shaving scandal. This got me to thinking how long will it take before organized crime finds avenues to get involved with this NIL industry. You can see it coming. Them setting up fronts to funnel money to these young and naive athletes and then owning them and their Families. Then forcing them to shape games and spreads for a desired finish. On top of that you'll have these kids setting up shop at a different Schools yearly in some cases. They'll be no way to govern this when it gets going and will create something we've never saw on this kind of scale. College sports could be on the verge of being permanently ruined in a matter of a decade when it takes off

I don't see it.

Much more likely to happen when kids were "prevented" from making any money legally.

There is no reason for them to hide making money now. A college student can only spend so much money.

Kids know now they can legally make money- and make good money. That knowledge automatically makes trying to break the law by getting themselves into a serious mess less likely. It's just not worth the risk when they can cash in legally.

They been doing it in basketball for years.

It will get worse. I hate the NIL. The Texas teams will be hard to beat with the Oil money. Don’t let me win the lottery because I will build whatever is needed.

This is about the entities that will be funneling money into the sport. Yes kids will make money but make no mistake in thinking that all the money these kids will be making will come from upstanding legitimate sources. Corruption has an open door to get embedded with ways to capitalize on athletes through NILs now.

But they could always do that.

I don't think this opens the door for that. This opens the door for legitimate folks to do it above board.

Organized crime does not control as much of the gambling world as they used to, online sites and legal markets have cut into all that considerably.
