This last 3 or so years everyone has been trying to figure out NIL. Who makes how much? Who is paying?
Well, it was all about donations from both companies and individuals. No one really knows who got what

All of that has now changed.
Starting this year, the university will actually be paying players. They say it will cost them about $20 million, but no word on how much each player will get. And the "better" players will still have NIL added to that stipend.
So many questions we will never know because of privacy law.
Sadly, I now know how SC plans to come up with the $20 million. The fee for my season seats went up $200 ea. There are several other seats that cost a lot more than mine, so they probably have even higher fees. I suppose Baseball and Basketball all went up too.
I love amateur football and I especially love going to Gamecock football at Willy B. But thanks to college kids demanding to be paid like the pros, it is getting hard for my budget to keep up.

Well my annual dues went up$200 this year. Afraid to see ticket prices. I've been saying for years I'm out the door just because its not worth it anymore. This year may actually do it. Hmm milk and eggs or some ungrateful sht that plays a sport.

Trump likes football, so hopefully he'll tackle the issue once he's done draining the swamp.

He's dealing with Gavin Newsom's slop in CA and he's also ready to revamp the Universities.

I'm certain he can deal with Gavin Newsom's slop as it relates to the NIL and unregulated college sports.

The problem with that $20 million is that most schools will have the same money. We won't actually gain any ground on any schools, except the few who give more to basketball.

Otherwise, those teams with high NIL budgets will have the same $20 million as us, and still have their NIL budget.

Thebonly good news is the string of high budget signers we had this year. We are one of the spenders now.

Players have always gotten paid (tuition, books, housing, meals). Now they simply are getting a big pay raise.

I'm in King Ward's situation. (Of course, KW and I are old enough to remember when the Beatles arrived in New York 61 years ago to the day).I used to go to all the games, Now I am perfectly pleased for the past 15 years to watch on TV. And even then I pick and choose what games are worth it to me to watch (only watching meaningful, competitive games). My time is valuable to me.

What is this amateur football you are talking about?
I never recall this in the last 50+ years.

The worst thing would be for the government to get involved, imo. I posted probably a year ago that this was coming, the universities paying the athletes, in addition to NIL; the info I remember reading then said the average would be $30,000 per year, per player, every sport, then of course it will continuously go up. The lawyers are now involved and we are now going to have to pay backpay to college athletes, insanity! Most that commented on my post said the players deserved it. Why?? The typical response is, well look how much the coaches make. Apples and oranges. I guess it makes perfect sense for the volleyball team and tennis teams and equestrian teams to haul in $30K. Bottom line is the "amateur" athlete is no more, the entire college sports scene between NIL, transfer portal. and the schools paying the athletes, is just a chaotic circus. Why are these athletes even tied to universities, need to just start semi-pro teams and move on.

I had to stop supporting them financially when all this nonsense started, no more Gamecock Club, yet somehow they are still surviving, even without my $Billions 🤣. That said, prices are going to go up, period, we will see if fans will pay more and more to see mid and low tier SEC teams, or any conferences mid and lower tier teams for that matter.

Correct. That would awful to have the damn federal government involved. My God, some people have to have the federal government involved in every damn thing.

Congress really doesn't want to be involved in it either- because with some of the questions they have asked in previous hearings, these people don't have a clue in the world about how to solve any issue with football either. Hell, we have Patrick Mahomes this week correcting one particular US Senator that was claiming he recruited him (he didn't).

This will work itself out in time. In the meantime, it's still really fun.

The idea of amateur athlete has been gone a LONG TIME. It's more a fantasy in some people's mind than something that ever existed.

and I am firmly in the camp that the players deserve to be paid and get whatever the market says they can get. It's a free market and you either believe in it or you don't. I believe in it and I'm glad to see it. The edges are rough but they will smooth out over time.
