Pumper Logic Explained

Still, they are Tennessee. More of a draw than we are in just about any circumstances. Sad, but true.

I guess if go by the name on the jersey, and your memory is stuck 10 or 15 years in the past.

Not sure that takes credit away from their staff doing in year one what should have also been done in Columbia.

Edit: I think the name (and reputation) of the coach meant a lot more to those transfers than the name and reputation of the university.

I've seen no pumpers. Unless you define pumper as someone that realizes we are exactly where everyone in the world though we would be, which is actually surprising considering we lost our starting QB, our backup grad assistant QB, and we're now on somebody I've never even heard of from a FCS Catholic school.
Well the rest of us have...and you are obviously one of them.
Well...everyone in the world DID know we should win 3-4 games if we just showed up. Let's see how the end of season record looks. E. Illinois may be the worst football in America and we beat them. Troy and ECU were "supposed to" wins. Vandy was a "lock" (???) as well....even though we saw those last 3 games mentioned anything but sure thing wins.
Injuries have nothing to do with our program's current recruiting, current transfer portal mismanagement and disinterest and overall direction.

They are 4-4 and 2-3 in the SEC.

Abd believe what you want, Tennessee does not have the stain of mediocrity that exists here at SC. If you are a prized player or recruit and want to win, given the 2 choices, they will pick Tennessee the vast majority of the time.

well then we had better get a HC and staff in here that can do it....because we just wasted 1 year.

Nothing was "wasted". Beamer was left a disaster and it got worse with multiple injuries to key players. Not a coach out there that would have changed that, and we are lucky it didn't go even further south.

The Kentucky game was the eye opener for me. When you get 3 turnovers AND LOSE, that’s telling. That game could have and should have been won. I think he lost the fans for the rest of the year with that game too because attendance has been poor ever since.
UK just simply wasn’t losing to us. That team is light years better than we are and the only reason we hung around was the TOs

So wanting the school to do its due diligence and hire the best candidate and then actually win is a bad thing? We should just close our eyes and cheer and blindly give? Like it or not its business now.
You forgot the most important thing - send money. Lots of it.

Certainly with the two coaches as choices. I'm curious if the coaches were switched, if those picks would be too?

I guess I just don't think UT is some great destination school. Kids being recruited today were toddlers the last time they were relevant.

I just don't see that supposed perception explaining away the difference in jobs the two coaches are doing either.

Exactly.

You act like they have had some amazing turnaround or something. They are 4-4 with wins over us, Mizzou, Bowling Green and Tennessee Tech. Just like us, they haven't beaten anybody that you could consider even decent, and they haven't had the injuries we have had to deal with.

They are light years ahead of us and at least appear competitive. While we seem to struggle to do anything right.

Take away their top 2 QB and best running back, and see how that works out for them.

We were competitive against Kentucky and all I saw was negativity here. I guess our fans can only get excited for 30 point losses that were "competitive" for other teams.

?

I seem to recall a game played between the gamecocks and that UT team that showed a pretty healthy difference in the teams.

Healthy is the operative word. One team was, the other teams wasn't.

But that doesn't change the fact that they haven't beat anybody worth mentioning are still 4-4.

I seem to recall UT callers complaining about lots of injuries and lack of depth for them too. But I suppose all fan bases have those excuse makers.

Its also very telling you say they haven't beaten anybody worth mentioning when the gamecocks are in that group.

But it still remains that when comparing the two, one is very far ahead of the other.

It's not "telling" at all. It's what we were told since way before the season. Anybody expecting otherswise was just living in fantasy. And then came the injuries. It's not an "excuse". It's reality.

And Tennessee isn't really worth mentioning either. Maybe a little more than us, but give them the same injuries as us and they would be even less so.

Im not sure their injuries aren't comparable, but if that's the excuse you want to cling to, go for it. At least it hasn't been debunked like the talent level excuse.

And I wouldn't say Tenn isn't worth mentioning. When the comparison is between the two programs, one is WAY ahead.

And they still have one of their ooc patsies and vandy on the schedule. Your record comparison may change drastically.

Here's the deal, henceforth, we've probably got to beat Missouri and somebody else. This thread was never sublime, but it has now degenerated into ridiculous haggling.

Nothing to haggle about. We are exactly who everybody thought we would be. And that was before the injuries. Anybody that expected anything more just needs to stick to watching Disney movies.

Boy, you are really stretching like a bungee cord to come up with that nonsense. So 4-4 looks good to you even though they include 3 total blowout losses, 2 cupcake wins(one close), and 2 narrow come from behind wins against teams that shouldn't even be on the field with us? You certainly have low standards.
So what excuse are you going to use to criticize this win?

So do the fans come back with a 3 TD+ win over Florida? Or are they still lost from that 6 point loss to Kentucky?

The Missouri game will tell a lot. If we win that then Auburn and Clemson will both be sellouts easily. If we lay an egg and look like we did before Florida then you won’t see a full stadium the following week.

The Clemson teams of the last few years have been so dangerous, SC really had no chance. This is the best chance in more than half a decade or longer to beat Clemson. Why any SC fan, even a marginal one, wouldn't be interested or excited about that game baffles me. Clemson is ripe for the taking. Even if SC lays an egg with Missouri, that just means it is an up and down team. If the team that beat Florida by three TDs shows up, Clemson is toast.

If we can become bowl eligible next week the stadium will be rocking the next two weeks. We can lose to Missouri but we can’t look incompetent like we did against A&M. We do have a chance to beat Clemson and to be honest, we need to give a good showing in the next two games. Wins like last night scare me because you wonder how the team will respond the following week against an opponent they can beat if they follow up the win with the same play.

Dabo won't let his team completely capitulate like Mullen did at Florida.

Don't start getting our hopes up because it will only hurt more.
