Last week's upper state win gave some evidence that this could happen, but how do you pick against Dutch Fork? Anyhow, congratulations, Indians! And Gaffney wins.
South Pointe opened in 2006 and now has 7 titles and 2 runner-ups. They don’t get to recruit. From what I’m reading, this is their 3rd State Title since 2015? Program began in 2006. Time to add them in the traditional power category.
They have had a good program since day 1 it seems. It also seemed like it took Northwestern a few years to recover once SP was built.South Pointe opened in 2006 and now has 7 titles and 2 runner-ups. They don’t get to recruit.
I've seen some creative accretion through transfer, however. I know whereof I speak.South Pointe opened in 2006 and now has 7 titles and 2 runner-ups. They don’t get to recruit.
They were sluggish the first two years then kicked it in gear. They have had a good program since day 1 it seems. It also seemed like it took Northwestern a few years to recover once SP was built.
I’m a BHS graduate, class of 75, so I wasn’t angry at the post but that the Eagles lost.😢😢South Pointe captures its seventh state championship by drubbing Beaufort 41-7.
It's still a great achievement to reach the finals.Tell us how it happened. Details.
That's the way it's supposed to be...best overall football played in the Upstate...An Upstate sweep of state title games...Gaffney, South Pointe, Daniel, Gray Collegiate (Upstate bracket) and Southside Christian.
Wonder why that is?That's the way it's supposed to be...best overall football played in the Upstate...
Well, Gaffney, Byrnes, Dorman, Spartanburg, Hillcrest, TL Hanna, Daniel, Chapman, Greer, Abbeville, Greenville, Westside, South Pointe, Union, Clinton, Laurens, Greenwood....great coaching, history/tradition, rabid fans....Wonder why that is?
Basically you're indicating the textile towns, or used to be so.Well, Gaffney, Byrnes, Dorman, Spartanburg, Hillcrest, TL Hanna, Daniel, Chapman, Greer, Abbeville, Greenville, Westside, South Pointe, Union, Clinton, Laurens, Greenwood....great coaching, history/tradition, rabid fans....
I don't think there will ever be a run in the state like Byrnes had with Bobby Bentley coaching the rebels...They were usually ranked in the TOP 5 nationally and would play on national television atleast once per year against other top ranked opponents from across America...
sure...now these town are highly sought after from the folks who want to move down south...Basically you're indicating the textile towns, or used to be so.
And don’t forget Abbeville and Woodruff.Well, Gaffney, Byrnes, Dorman, Spartanburg, Hillcrest, TL Hanna, Daniel, Chapman, Greer, Abbeville, Greenville, Westside, South Pointe, Union, Clinton, Laurens, Greenwood....great coaching, history/tradition, rabid fans....
King can you explain to me why Lancaster was in the Lower State bracket back in the day?Wonder why that is?
I agree. Especially as a 2A. Not fair to teams like AJ and Buford!!Schools like gray shouldn't be allowed to compete in state championships.
I was there lolDo you remember that title game back in the 90s? It was an absolute classic.
I think the region back then had more of a north/south orientation with Columbia schools in there and maybe Sumter. Only later did we get in a region that took us toward Rock Hill and Gaffney.King can you explain to me why Lancaster was in the Lower State bracket back in the day?
You left Gaffney off your list of the most “sought after towns.” Most every criminal on the FBI’s most wanted list is sought after in Gaffney.sure...now these town are highly sought after from the folks who want to move down south...
Fort Mill, Travelers Rest, Greer, Pickens, Pendleton, Inman, Duncan, Lyman, Boiling Springs, Woodruff, Campobello, Landrum...great sought after towns....
Then both Greenville and Spartanburg are really busting at the seams...those two cities are starting to lose some of the southern charm...
I guess it's the Gastonia of the Palmetto State. 🤣You left Gaffney off your list of the most “sought after towns.” Most every criminal on the FBI’s most wanted list is sought after in Gaffney.
