LSU is No. 1 in the D1Baseball Preseason Top 25 for the first time ever, leading a group of nine SEC teams in the rankings.

Of the 6-7 college baseball polls, this is one we use on GamecockScoop. Baseball America is the only other we really pay attention to. Nice to see the Gamecocks back in the Top 25.

Carolina opens this season with a 3-game series against UMass Lowell on Feb 17-19 at Founders Park in Columbia.

We will have more baseball coverage as the season nears.

Transfer portal changes coming

Changes to portal rules are coming that will impact the 2023 season...this looks like NCAA is trying a little to stem use of portal

  • first time transfer you get immediate eligibility
  • to get immediate eligibility after you have already transferred once, there will be a reason required such as physical injury or mental health condition or sexual assault/abuse, etc
  • subsequent transfers (after first) due to academic or playing time reasons will result in delayed eligibility (sit out a year)
  • graduate transfers still get immediate eligibility

Quick Coaching Staff Note

Multiple sources are reporting that Austin Peay TE Coach Ryan Yurachek is joining South Carolina's football staff as an analyst. Yurachek is originally a Myrtle Beach, SC native and spent time as a grad assistant at Arkansas. As a player, he was a TE at Marshall where he tied the program record with a pass reception in 42 consecutive games. Yurachek had a brief stint as a player in the NFL with Oakland and Dallas.
