South Carolina Women's Basketball vs. Notre Dame Live Thread

Live updates from PARIS (!!!!!) as South Carolina takes on Notre Dame in the historic season opener, the first ever college basketball game in France.

Here is a quick catchup on all my work from the week so far:

Everything Dawn said about the excursions:

On the open practice, youth clinic and joy:

On how this trip is helping a very new and young team learn about itself faster than usual:

I interviewed several former players from early in Staley's tenure to ask them what seein ga game in Paris means to them:

Eli Drinkiwitz: Beat us with Apps players, beating us with Missouri players

So whats the deal?? Guy spent most of his career in G5 and FCS. He becomes HC at App State and beats us in 2019, ending a 3 game win streak vs Missouri. Then beats us 4x in a row now, with a roster that has been below us in recruiting. HE doesnt have hardly any “SEC experience”, he was a lowly QC at Auburn for a yeat, otherwise he was at Arkansas State, Boisie State, App State….and coached HS ball during the mid-late 2000s.

Now Missouri is 7-1 headed towards a top 15 ranking. We shoulda hired the guy as he left the stadium that awful 2019 night when he beat us w App State

Rapid Reaction: Gamecocks Outlast Gamecocks In Strange Saturday Afternoon

How are we feeling about that last section? Are things still salvageable, or despite the win does this seem like the beginning of the end of the patience for the direction of the program?

Does Bama Get It? Does Carolina Have a Clue?

Football Wins: Bama = 974 ... Carolina = 599
National Championships in Football: Bama = 18 ... Carolina = 0
Alabama also had 6 "Unclaimed National Championships" (1945, 1966, 1975, 1977, 2016). I do not know what or why these years were referred to as Unclaimed Championships.
Conference Championships: Bama 33 (29 SEC & 4 So Conf) ... Carolina 1 (ACC 1969 @ 7-4). That year Carolina only beat 1 Out of Conference team.
SEC Division Championships: Bama 17 ... Carolina 1

Mike Shula @ Bama (4 years) 26-23 ... Fired after (4-9; 6-6; 10-2; 6-6)
Shane Beamer @ Carolina (in 3rd year) 17-17 ... still on the payroll currently at (7-6; 8-5; 2-6, so far)

In short, what would salvage the 2023 wreck?

Right to the point, what would salvage the season? Realistically we arent gonna win 6 in a row we just arent tnat team.

I say handle Jax St and Vandy obviously. But beating Clemson and Kentucky. Going forward those are 2 teams we MUST re-establish ourselves above. Then win a bowl, finish above .500. Everything else would be a bonus. But a loss to UK or Clemson, or finishing below .500, would be a massive step back. We have 2 road games vs Mizzou and A&M that are basically whatever. I think we lose both.

Then we have a 4 game home stretch with likely a 2-6 record. Beamers tenure will swing massively on that 4 game run at home.

South Carolina target, new 2025 four-star Alex Tatsch is seeing his recruitment pick up quickly

There is a lot still to come in Tatsch's recruitment. WVU really got the ball rolling and he's picked up a number of Power Five offers since. Look for his next visit to go to Virginia Tech for the NC State game (Nov 18).
