NIL & tranfer portal (good or bad)

For me the jury is still out. I lean more towards the good than bad for different reasons. So let's get the debate going. I'll start.

Pros: (Transfer portal)
- Teams like a SC can take advantage and recruit players they normally wouldn't have a shot at.
- Can instantly shore up depth.
- Players have a 2nd & 3rd chance to redeem their career or recieve more playing time.
- Players aren't locked in with coaches that didn't recruit them or have different coaching philosophy.

Negatives: (Transfer portal)
- Harder for teams to create competitive environment.
- Recruits don't have time to develop.
- Teams never know if a position of depth will be a non issue or if a star player will return the following year.

NIL - Pros
- Kids get paid
- Kids less focused on being drafted earlier in career.

NIL - Negatives (Lol where to start)
- Teams getting in bidding wars for kids
- Kids make bad decisions based on what someone will give them instead of the free education they are given.

I could have probably added several more opinions for each category, but would like to hear what everyone else thought.

In closing a team like ours could take advantage of transfer portal and instantly compete the following year with the right recruits. The key is to add to your talent base and have limited turn over. It's like turn over margins, you need to be on the plus side. So far I'm skeptical that we are this year. Last year we came up huge.

NIL I hate it. They are going to have to enforce some rules. I'm good with players making money, but not being poached by teams with more money. If we're just going to pay kids then let's create salary caps and contracts. This is not what college football is abouts. Kids a gifted a full ride to an institution of their choice that recruits them. Most kids are denied this opportunity due to the cost no matter how well they have done in school. I believe this is always overlooked. 99% of these kids will never play professionally. By paying them instead of teaching them to take advantage of their education will have devastating effects long term. You will see more kids Transfer and not complete their education for a small come up.

Lawson and Dozier don’t survive Final Roster Cuts

AJ Lawson and PJ Dozier were waived in the Final Roster Cuts by the Minnesota T-Wolves. With Chris Silva being waived by the Atlanta Hawks last week, this will mean we will not have a former Gamecock on an NBA roster to start the season. Just goes to show how incredibly hard it is to make an NBA roster even with them being expanded to 15 Active and 2 2-Way spots per team.

Here's my gripe with the Portal, graduate transfers and extended eligibility

Years ago, Freshmen could not play varsity ball. I'm not going to defend/attack that philosophy. But it did allow a coach to instill/teach his system. Perhaps, doing away with this system signaled the end of the Student/Athlete ....... (LOL, LOL, LOL!!!)

Transfer? Then sit out a season. Again, not my dog in that fight but, I'm a supporter.

OKAY .... N.I.L. killed college football. We just won't admit it yet. And often after a death, those closest, refuse to accept the loss.

NO!!! My gripe is The Portal/Grad Transfers ... The Giver of False Hope and the Destroyer of Programs. Look at us. I believe 2 of our starters CAN NOT play after this season. So, to whom is Paris (not blaming him, at all) teaching his system? Sure, this grad transfer crap might help you go 16-16 instead of 14-18 ..... this year. But, did we lose a 'next year kid,' who might have been a darn good #6 or #7 man, because of playing time, & he felt lost on the depth chart? "Who are 'THEY' getting next year? Do 'THEY' really want me? If "HE" comes here, I'm I even going to get a chance???

LOL! In another post, I ended my comment with, what I now think will be my 'every post' sign off ....
