Carolina improves to 8-2-3 and 3-2 in the SEC.

STARKVILLE, MS – The Gamecocks tallied a win on the road and their third victory in conference play after taking down Mississippi State 1-0 on Thursday.
The first half got started with a bang as 5th year Claire Griffiths got one into the back of the net nearly 20 yards back off an assist from Payton Patrick to put the Gamecocks up 1-0; only six minutes into the game. The goal marked the second of the season for Griffiths, and the fifth of her career.
In the remaining 34 minutes of the first half, South Carolina and Missouri State put up three shots each, with the Gamecocks tallying two on goal.
More than 20 minutes into the second half, Mississippi State notched the first shot of the period to the bottom of the net, but were met by a save from senior goalkeeper Heather Hinz, the second save of the evening on either side. The Bulldogs would attempt for a second time in the 73rd minute but came up unsuccessful.
Mississippi State out-shot the Gamecocks in the final 45, but South Carolina was able to stay on top and secure the 1-0 victory. The Gamecocks finished the night with three shots (two on goal) and two corners. Hinz tallied one save.

South Carolina will head home to take on Kentucky on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2:00 p.m. in Stone Stadium.
