*** Another official visit set...

Southlake (Texas) Carroll class of 2022 three-star wide receiver Landon Samson tells me he's set an official visit to South Carolina for the final week of July (likely that final weekend).

Most of July is a dead period, but that final week is open for visits and Carolina will have a large group of unofficial visitors in that Saturday.

More on Samson here: https://southcarolina.forums.rivals...fered-wr-sets-ov-more-on-this-weekend.359437/

Inside the commitment - Ryan Brubaker

South Carolina’s latest commitment - OL Ryan Brubaker - represents the culmination of a recruitment that dates to the the beginnings of Shane Beamer’s staff.

While the Gamecocks got a later start with Cason Henry (offering in late May and securing a commitment this month), Brubaker was a very early target for the staff.

It was evident that South Carolina was going to be a major factor with this four-star out of Pennsylvania judging from the progress that was made during virtual calls and visits earlier this year. Brubaker has often cited his connection with OL coach Greg Adkins, and he has likewise enjoyed the approach of the rest of the staff.

In addition to his talents on the football field, Brubaker is a very thoughtful young man who took a full slate of official visits prior to deciding and put lots of work and thought into said decision. As evidence - he called the other programs that were recruiting him to let him know he would not be attending their program prior to announcing his public commitment to South Carolina.

For the Gamecocks, things were already in a solid place prior to Brubaker’s summer official visit. Once he took that, things seemed to look very positive for South Carolina - Brubaker needed to complete the process with a couple more officials.

As a prospect, Brubaker is going to be a great locker room addition but brings ample physical tools. He could be a true tackle, has a very good frame and plays with physicality. He’s also a swimmer at the high school level.

With Brubaker’s pledge, the staff now has three commitments it can be quite happy with along the OL. From what we hear, more research will be done on other possible additions, but this was always the ideal scenario once the Gamecocks offered the aforementioned Henry - to get him, Brubaker, and Grayson Mains, who was the first to commit.

Braves 🆚 Mets 6/29/21 (The Chase )😎

Welcome to another edition of Gamecock Central Braves Baseball ⚾️ Chat 💬. I am your host @Pfunk Cock along with a plethora of regular participants in the chat.
As o type this , we are mere minutes away from ⚔️ and family boarding their international flight ✈️ (20 hour journey) back to America. Safe travels brother.

The Braves will host the Mets on an important mid season series. The Mets have lead the division for most of the year after starting the season in Covid19 protocol. (Seems like so long ago) . They have recently begun making up those games with doubleheader’s and yesterday’s stop on DC where they lost to the extremely hot Nationals team. They currently lead the Nationals by 3 games on second and the Braves are 4 1/2 games behind in 3rd. The Phillies and Marlins bring up the rear on the East.
The Braves will throw Charlie Morton in the opening game. He has really pitched well of late and this will be a big momentum push with a victory tonight. The Mets will Throw their Rookie McGill Who pitched very well against the Braves in his brief appearance but that was without Acuna leading off. Freeman was 2-2 against him but others who played were not as fortunate. He was under jo pressure as Wright was his opponent and he just plain sucked. I don’t foresee him making another start unless it is an extreme emergency and that will be with a very quick 🪝.

First Pitch : 7:20

WBB: Amihere will play for Canadian national team in Olympics

From South Carolina media relations:

South Carolina women's basketball sophomore Laeticia Amihere will suit up for her native Canada in the 2020 Summer Olympics as she's been named to the 12-woman roster set to travel to Tokyo, Team Canada officials announced on Tuesday.

Amihere played in all 31 games for Carolina last season, catching fire during the Garnet and Black's run to the Final Four, earning a spot on the 2021 NCAA Hemisfair Region All-Tournament Team while averaging 10.0 points-per-game and 7.6 rebounds-per-game for the tournament.

Earlier this summer Amihere led the Canadian squad to a fourth-place finish at the 2021 FIBA Women's AmeriCup in Puerto Rico. The Mississauga, Ontario native averaged 13.0 PPG, best on the team and eighth overall in the tournament. Amihere also led the team with 7.7 RPG, ranking 11th overall in the event.

Amihere could wind up on the opposite end of the court as her head coach, Dawn Staley, if the Canadian and United States teams clash after the group stage of the tournament. Amihere joins Gamecock alumna A'ja Wilson in the traditional five-on-five tournament with Wilson playing for the United States, while fellow alumna Allisha Gray suits up for the United States in the inaugural 3x3 tournament.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games begin on Fri., July 23 with women's basketball group play opening on Sun., July 25. Canada is in Group A, which includes South Korea, Spain and Serbia which is the Canadians' first opponent (Mon., July 26, 4:20 a.m. ET). The quarterfinals are set for Aug. 3-4 with the semifinals on Aug. 6 and the medal games set for Aug. 7.

Gamecocks up to #21 in recruiting class ranking

Really is a fun time to be a Gamecock. I know it’s early, but it really feels like this class could be the start of something. Beamer is as promised on the recruiting trail so far. Go Cocks.

OT: Penny Hardaway bringing in Cheating Ass Larry Brown

Penny can’t coach so he decided to stay at Memphis and bring in 81 year old Larry Brown to do it for him. Larry Brown is a serial cheater at the collegiate level. Most recently he embarrassed himself at SMU where he was caught cheating and resigned. Before that he was busted at UCLA and Kansas. It’s insane that this man is allowed to coach by the ncaa.
