Fire Frank Martin...

What would constitute OK?
a winning record with post season implications. It's not the bar but its progress after the rebuild after losing Thornwell, Dozier, and Notice in one season. I haven't been overly excited with the players Martin has brought in since he got Dozier with the exception of Silva. However, I see 2 special players in Lawson and Bryant. I think they are both next level talents.

Has bosoxcock and kingward quit the board yet

Hey now. I like king ward. Dont always agree with him, that's certain. Look past the negativity. Many thought provoking views and usually looks at things from multiple directions. Also I have noticed a bit of flexibility and willingness to hear and/or embrace different opinions. If those opinions are well thought and presented in a matter of fact manner.

Bosox is also appreciated by me even though I may disagree with some of his views. I dont like Boston sports so...there is that. Love to visit that city though. Great history, great fans, and I will admit great sports teams over last couple decades

The Gamecocks clinched no worse than a .500 finish in the league for just the eighth time in 28 years.

With one more win, Martin will become the only coach in school history to post three winning SEC seasons.
Man, that is a depressing stat. With Trae Hannibal coming next season, we could have an exciting group of guys at the guard position.

I've rarely seen him have a good word about Carolina. Always wants to come in and grouse about everything so he can show how objective and above it all he is. You really can't tell if he likes the Gamecocks or gets any happiness out of being a fan. The thesaurus schtick is also exhausting. I have a good vocabulary too but people don't talk like that in normal parlance. Maybe he should write for the Big Bang Theory.

His expanded use of vocabulary is one of the reasons I enjoy his post.
I find myself drawn to movies that have "great conversation " .There is something refreshing about civil conversation that is sorely lacking now days.

not sure if he reported me or if it was official forum law enforcement

he's okay, just a little full of himself

good luck the rest of the way if I get banned again

Marshall record is 13-12 He wouldn't even have a winning record in the SEC .
I didn't realize they were struggling so badly this season. I just looked at their schedule and they have some pretty lopsided losses. I wonder what's going on over there?

Make the NCAA this year or he should be fired.. 7 years and only 1 NCAA tourney .

It's tough. You know he's a quality coach, who has shown a willingness to adapt his schemes to the prevalent pace and space style. And while many find fault with his sideline demeanor, most of the media give him a pass and find it endearing. Which, almost inexplicably, makes him a decent face of the university and its basketball program.

What I'd have to be asking myself if I'm the AD is, why can't this guy recruit better? Why is he constantly missing on all the top regional talent? Why is he currently trying to salvage a season with a run to the NCAA tournament with, essentially, a 7 man rotation that he's really been playing with since the start of conference play? We all know the list... Tevin Mack, Jordan Bruner, Cartier Diarra, Seventh Woods, Jordan Bowden, Clyde Trapp, Nicolas Claxton, Jordan Davis, Ja Morant, Devontae Shuler, Zion Williamson, Aaron Nesmith, DJ Burns, Robert Braswell, Jimmy Nichols, Josiah James, Juwan Gary.... how in the world do you miss or pass on all those in state guys over a 5 year recruiting cycle?

That has been the history of South Carolina. Ever since the 80s we've struggled to get elite talent with a few exceptions here and there. It's been frustrating and I hoped with our Final 4 run we could have gotten over that hump.

He's toned it down to a certain degree, but then those early 20-loss years have been a while, yet. But the media hasn't jumped on Martin much because he hasn't had any players that have risen up and complained about it, or their families either for that matter.

Coach Martin's players all seem to like him a good bit, and stand by him even when he screams at them and curses them out. I guess it's just HOW he curses, mostly, or how he mitigates the issue afterwards in the locker-room or in private. But his players don't have much of an issue with it. It's mostly been just the fans.....

He is one of the top 10 coaches in basketball. Like it or not he is a life coach and coaches these boys into manhood. He develops players like none other. Look at Silva, the Lithuanians, et al. He has had terrible luck with idiotic players with BB guns, inexplicable ncaa red tape on players like Bowen and Cousinard, and injuries. This guy is the best coach we have had apart from McGuire, and left a better team - historically - to come to us. Y’all need to thank the Lord, or pull for another team.

Marvelous synopsis of the situation we face.

How I define a good coach: he leaves the program better than he found it.

Are you happier with the state of the program now or the last year Darrin Horn was here?

Frank can coach. I’ve said it through thick and thin. You people that cite one tourney birth in 7 years forget what crap show he inherited. Realistically you really need to treat it like his 5th year. There was no way we were going to make any tournament those first 2 seasons.

We should’ve made the tourney the year before the final 4 run. Despite a tough start, we are in the mix again in late February. Hopefully they get a big win today. The more we win the harder it is to ignore the improvement in this team.

Ok what do yall think is reasonable how many ncaa tournament appearances in a ten year period? and wins over clem in the same time.

Given our history two appearances in a 10 year span is great. If your name isn’t Frank McGuire or Eddie Fogler it hasn’t been done here.

Wins over Clemson I’d like to at least break even. It’s always relative to how good clemson is. Athletic department policy cost him one win against Clemson.

I think its unfortunate that we play Clemson early in the season. We are not the same team we were early in the year. In December we were not the better team. Now, we are definitely the better team.

Believe the riddle of your 2nd paragraph could, in part, be answered by the 1st. One would have to believe his on-court demeanor comes into play with recruits regularly. It takes a certain type of personality to deal with that level of in your face criticism game after game.

IMO, one glaring example was PJ Dozier. When you watched him head to the sidelines after year 1, it was clear he wanted no part of the bluster.

Agree. Both schools have screwed this rivalry up big time on the hardwood. We’ve played it on the same day as football conference championships and the Saturday before Christmas when students are home. Neither side can sell this game out.

I’d personally like to see us go back to a home and home. If we’re not going to do that, let’s play it in January or February as an out of conference break from the conference schedule. It can be done if both schools wanted to bad enough.

My backup plan would be the day before the football game at the site of the football game. I think we could make it rivalry weekend....

You raise several points I would like to address. But I have to get ready to work a funeral here in a little while. Briefly: everyone remembers Horn who is old enough. The program has been too erratic. We played ourselves out of the Dance the year before the Final Four, so no use saying "shoulda". The two years you mentioned count toward building, so one Dance in seven, if that's the way it works out, is still not enough. Two in seven is not enough. I think he is going to wiggle off the hook. I think we could have a better team next year, the loss of Silva being the big Joker in the deck. Dance in Year Eight or Look for the Gate.

You guys blow me away. Can Frank Martin not get a few courtesy years after taking Gamecock Basketball farther than ever before? Which coach from the past set the bar so high that a trip to the final four is not good enough? It was just two years ago.

I admit that there might be (in fact there must be) something that I don't understand. Is it just his personality?

We will not get a better coach than Frank given our less than stellar recent history and he is actually doing a pretty good job when compared to any of our coaches since we joined the SEC. It will take more time to keep the best players in SC versus going to Not Carolina or Dook.

Avoid the elaborate, the pretentious, the coy, and the cute. Do not be tempted by a twenty dollar word when there is a ten-center handy, ready and able. Anglo-Saxon is a livelier tongue than Latin, so use Anglo-Saxon words.

IMHO no amount of time is going to change that situation. UNC & Duke are blue bloods and will always be able to attract the best talent from anywhere in the country. It's better to acknowledge that fact and plan a strategy on how to combat the situation.
