I thought it was a lot but UT since last year has lost around 40 players to the portal.

This is a good metric to track, along with the number of athletes gained through the portal, and the net gain or loss. One of these days every team might have an assistant coach of portal management.

TN still has 10 guys in the portal that have yet to find a home.

They have had 27 other players transfer to other programs via the portal.

Plus, there are 10 players that have transferred into Knoxville from the portal.

So, for those keeping track...

TN has lost 27 players. Plus, however many of the other 10 still in the portal that either find another home or TN doesn't take back.

Plus, however many of the players which are ending their careers through graduation.

However many players TN loses they can only replace up to 25 through recruiting out of high school or the portal.

TN should be pretty thin this coming season.

I hope they’re so thin that they have trouble fielding 22 players 🤣.

Before NIL was “the end of CFB”, the transfer portal was “the end of CFB”- fortunately thus far it only appears to be the end of CFB in Tennessee! I am totally fine with it. I hope it keeps up and they have to put their cheerleaders out there in pads. Could not happen to a more obnoxious bunch of rednecks unless it happened in clemsun.

Exactly right- and they aren’t losing back ups and bench warmers. They lost multiple starters from last year’s team, a few of their top most recent class recruits… and didn’t they also lose a big QB recruit because he kept getting busted for weed?
-yep: Salter, just found it:

Not only thin- but many of the guys they have left are not the types of talent UT is used to fielding. This could be a huge hole to dig out of for their program… We need a few things to go our way to get out of our own hole and a division rival who is traditionally better than us falling apart could really help us move up the ladder faster!
