WBB GAMETHREAD: # 2 Stanford vs # 1 Gamecocks

Yeah I mistaken her height with Tamari Key but I honestly didn't see much difference in height in the little time they were on court together. I still stick by everything else I said. When Haley Jones hadn't shown up for some games, it had been Brink that has generally took over when she plays extended minutes. She's not as efficient as Boston but she can impose on others despite her thin frame.
Brink is a marvelous player. Runs the floor extremely well. She is a shot blocker but more in the style of Amihere. By that I mean in quickness in help defense and rotation. She doesn’t do as well in low post one v one.
She is a horrible ft shooter 46%. Is not a three point threat at all, only 3 attempts all season.
Where she kills teams is face up at 15 feet. Decent midrange shot, monster first step with strengthen enough to withstand contact and twisty enough to get shots off

Championship complacency and a coach who perhaps doesn't care as much about undefeated season. She played 12 players in both losses.. She seems to believe more in developing experienced depth for the championship run than a super impressive record.
Don't know your background or how much basketball other than the gamecocks you look at past the boxscore, but the two teams they lost two were very athletic and defensive minded. Also, Stanford lost their point guard from last year, who was their leading scorer and their best three point shooter. Without her this year, the others have struggled when facing pressure and scoring from the perimeter which in certain games to include the two they lost have negative impacted their big girls.

I haven't checked, but I guarantee most of these schools (NCST, Stanford, UConn twice, Maryland, Oregon, Duke) probably play just us as their tough out of conference game, while we play all of them. Has to be the toughest out of conference schedule of all time.
Wrong.

Stanford has played:
Tecxas
Gonzaga
Indiana
USF
Maryland
Tenn

You are correct! In addition to Stanford, NCSU and UCONN have taken on all comers in OOC play.
SOS
#1 UCONN
#2 USC
#3 Stanford
#5 NCSU
#10 Tenn

All five teams are seriously prepping for the tournament
What is embarrassing is
#128 LSU
#130 Baylor
#137 Ark
#161 Texas
#196 Bama
#200 Ole Miss
#201 Auburn
#259 Miss St
But very expected by a Schaefer and a Mulkey coached team. Clemson is actually the third toughest team on LSU’s OOC

I wouldn't worry about that, no way will the season get cancelled again
They are already discussing minimum number of games you will have to play to qualify for the tournament.

Shit storm of Covid in NE already and it is going to dramatically affect the season. I can almost guarantee Tourney is played in a bubble like last year.

Yeah, I got all that. Please read my previous 8 posts in this thread. I'm well aware they replaced their point guard and that they have played a tough schedule. Texas? Yeh, we're well aware of Vic's defense and Texas' athleticism

I have great respect for Stanford and expect them to be top notch this year (and tonight) . But offseason player complacency by chhamps and coaching lineup experiments can be real things that happen to great teams - early..

I may be wrong, but this is positive tests with no sickness and it's over reaction.

Well first off Brink is not 6’6” but 6’4” she is very good but not dominant and besides being foul prone is one of the worst free throw shooters in the country. As is the team, 354 in ft%

They turn the ball over as much and sometimes more than us. They do not have a true point guard. Very susceptible to on ball pressure.
That's excellent. You've made me feel better. I hope all those deficiencies are evident tonight.

Yes that is a piece of it and probably applies best to sports teams because they are the highest groups vaccinated % wise in America along with the military...... BUT pay attention to what is going on in the NE with hospitalizations and bed availability.
Another round of Covid shitstorm is coming. I have no power to get any body vaxxed and will not fight that here, just go look at the numbers

BEAT STANFORD

You won't have to fight me. I'm going to obtain every kind of chemical protection that comes available - and then I'm going to go out and live my life.

Well yeah, but

I was closely exposed yesterday to someone who is sick and positive today. I’ve got all those Chems too and I’m not worried about my death at all.

but do I “go out and live” by going to a family Christmas gathering and potentially expose elderly or weak loved ones when I may be a carrier?

I’m vaxxed and boosted. My social circle is also vaxxed and boosted unless they are lying. I go out and live my life, work(mainly remote) church, grocery shopping, take out from restaurants, but I wear a mask. I don’t kiss unknown women, refuse to shake hands with unwashed taters and bathe at least weekly

That's up to you and those elderly and weak to whom you refer. I've prepared myself the best I can, and from there, I take my social cues from other people. If they don't want to intermingle, I will oblige them. But. frankly, if the fully vaccinated have to be treated as lepers solely because they come in incidental contact with someone, the logical conclusion is vaccines aren't worth anything and that everything should be shut down and should have always been shut down - and every public function cancelled. Those measures have already been tried and found to be societally and economically untenable.

Either you are my doppelganger of one of my split personalities. Go Cocks!!

Good news: Henderson looking ready to go in warmups.

Bad news: Saxton's clanging 10 footers in warmups.

If it's any consolation, when I went to the Maryland game, Saxton was making that 15 footer about 80% of the time and it didn't materialize in the game so perhaps this is good news.

I think we need to slow the pace down. I think we're going fast and Lexie Hull is basically beating us by herself.

Pretty awful start by the Gamecocks, and Dawn looks to be outcoached in the 1st half. Let’s hope this gets turned around fast…
