Kroeger and Wells Named All-SEC by the Associated Press

FROM USC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Dec. 5, 2022) — University of South Carolina punter Kai Kroeger earned a spot on the All-SEC first team and wide receiver Antwane Wells Jr. was named to the All-SEC second-team unit, the Associated Press announced today.

Kroeger, 6-4, 207-pound junior from Lake Forest, Ill., was a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award. He averaged 46.8-yards per punt, tops in the SEC, second in the country and the second-best mark in school history. Of his 52 punts, 17 traveled 50 or more yards, including a long of 79, the third-longest in FBS in 2022. Twenty-seven of his punts (52 percent) were spotted inside the 20-yard line.

Wells, a 6-1, 207-pound junior from Richmond, Va., leads the Gamecocks with 63 receptions for 898 yards and six touchdowns. He ranks second in the SEC in receiving yards per game at 74.8 and is third in receptions per game at 5.25. He also has cracked the school’s all-time single-season list in both receptions and receiving yards, ranking 10th in both categories.

The voting was conducted among a panel of 15 sports writers and broadcasters covering the league.

Wednesday Night Quick OC Update

I had a really interesting conversation this evening that gave Gamecock Scoop some insight into OC info and also returning players. I'm told that the OC list is as long as 15, and Shane Beamer is doing his due diligence with each name. The 3 names I put at the top of our Hot Board are part of the 15, but I'll have a few more names for you in an updated hot board tomorrow. The biggest name I'd probably want to add at the moment is Graham Harrell, OC at WVU. That's not to say he's the leader, but I've heard him mentioned enough times now to say he's solidly on that list, along with Arky OC Kendal Briles who was the first name we mentioned on Monday.

The even more intriguing news is who this potential OC might be coaching. I'll have a full write up tomorrow, but we're beginning to hear there is a likelihood of several key pieces of the offense that are draft eligible may opt to run it back, which of course would be enticing to any potential OC Beamer is pursuing. I'll have more on this tomorrow.

P.S. No I’m not adding Dan Mullen to the list

Quick Dante Reno Note

I should have a full interview with him posted later today or tomorrow, but I figured I'd give you the most relevant detail a little early for those of you who check the Insider's Forum.

I asked 2024 QB Commit Dante Reno if the departure of OC Marcus Satterfield had any effect on his commitment with South Carolina and he assured me that it didn't. Like I said, I will have a lot more details shortly, but if any of you were having anxiety about that, you should be able to relax a bit for now.
