Aaron Judge will remain with the New York Yankees

$360 MM for nine years.

Now, aren't you glad that you read all those books, studied real hard and owe about $50 to $100 grand in student loans, while earning less than a 100 G's/yr, instead of picking up a golf club or, baseball or, round ball (It Is NOT called HOOPS) and practiced 3 or 4 days a week?

A new Cliff Notes book is coming out .... Education for Dummies.

We aren't rebuilding

This isn't a rebuilding year and neither was last year. This is who we are. I can look at our players and see how they line up against other SEC talent and it isn't close. We also have no experienced coaches nor leadership in our Athletic Department. We actually looked like one of Georgia's OOC games and they certainly treated us like one. We obviously need a change at most coaching positions because the people we have aren't getting anything accomplished other than collecting a pay check. We will be lucky to win any conference games this year.

Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer sitting out of Gator Bowl

ESPN's Pete Thamel had this report that Mayer, one of the top tight ends in the country, will not be playing in the Gator Bowl.

Mayer caught 67 passes for 809 yards this season and had nine touchdowns. No other player had more than 30 catches, more than 350 yards or more than three touchdowns. A huge break for South Carolina here, to say the least.

Here is the full release from the university:

------------------------------

The University of South Carolina was represented by four players on the Coaches’ All-SEC teams, announced by the Southeastern Conference office today.

Wide receiver Antwane Wells Jr. and punter Kai Kroeger earned spots on the Coaches’ All-SEC first-team unit, while offensive lineman Jovaughn Gwyn and long snapper Hunter Rogers were named to the All-SEC second team.

Wells, a 6-1, 207-pound junior from Richmond, Va., leads the Gamecocks with 63 receptions for 898 yards and six touchdowns. He ranks second in the SEC in receiving yards per game at 74.8 and is third in receptions per game at 5.25. He also has cracked the school’s all-time single-season list in both receptions and receiving yards, ranking 10th in both categories. Wells was recognized as the Steve Spurrier Most Valuable Offensive Player at the team’s Senior Banquet and was named to the Associated Press’ All-SEC second team earlier this week.

Kroeger, 6-4, 207-pound junior from Lake Forest, Ill., was a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award. He averaged 46.8-yards per punt, tops in the SEC, second in the country and the second-best mark in school history. Of his 52 punts, 17 traveled 50 or more yards, including a long of 79, the third-longest in FBS in 2022. Twenty-seven of his punts (52 percent) were spotted inside the 20-yard line. He was also named to the All-SEC first team by the AP and was recognized as the Jim Carlen Most Valuable Player for Special Teams at the team’s Senior Banquet earlier this week.

Gwyn, a 6-3, 300-pound redshirt senior from Charlotte, N.C., started all 12 games for the Gamecocks at right guard in 2022 and has made 46-consecutive starts, most on the squad and third on the school’s all-time list behind only T.J. Johnson (53) and Brandon Shell (47). Gwyn garnered the Outstanding Student-Athlete Award, the Strength & Conditioning Award, the Most Outstanding Senior Award and was named a Rex Enright Team Captain for the second-straight year at the team’s Senior Banquet held earlier this week.

Rogers, a 6-1, 205-pound redshirt sophomore from Columbia’s Spring Valley High School, handled both the short- and long-snapping duties for the Gamecocks this season. He was part of a punting unit that helped Kai Kroeger lead the conference in punting at 46.8 yards and the team rank second in the SEC and fifth in the country in net punting at 43.27 yards per punt. In addition, Rogers was the snapper working with first-year placekicker Mitch Jeter, who was successful on all 10 of his field goal attempts in 2022. Rogers added three special teams tackles and rushed five yards for a first down on a fake field goal attempt.

The Gamecocks (8-4, 4-4 SEC) will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 30, when they travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8-4) in the 78th edition of the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. Game time is set for 3:30 pm ET and the contest will be televised nationally on ESPN.

Can someone explain to me...

... how Clemson drops one spot after losing at home but Tenn loses to the same team away a week before and they drop 5 spots? And what the heck is UNC doing in the ranking at all after losing their last two games? Guess they had to make sure the ACCCG had two ranked teams.

This is what I hate about a group of people getting to decide who gets to play for a title.

ESPN pick us over Notre Dame 27-25

This is from ESPN’s bowl game projections:

TaxSlayer Gator Bowl: Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. South Carolina Gamecocks
TIAA Bank Field (Jacksonville, Florida)

This feels like a fairly big game for Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman, who lost his debut in the Fiesta Bowl last year. After starting quarterback Drew Pyne entered the transfer portal, the Irish could turn to opening game QB1 Tyler Buchner, who is back from injury, or reserves Steve Angeli and Ron Powlus III. South Carolina comes in hot after wins over Tennessee and Clemson, and both squads excel on special teams. It's hard to pick against Shane Beamer's crew right now, and they win on a field goal.

Prediction: South Carolina 27, Notre Dame 25

Figured I'd compile all the Inside info into one easy to access post instead of spreading it throughout the forum like I have been the last several days.

Where will Rattler be next year?

I always believed Rattler would be 1 and done in Columbia. After looking at his entire body of work for the season, most of us can agree his first 10 games left a lot to be desired. He obviously had a career game against Tennessee and a decent (although not great) game against Clemson. I’m thinking that he returns for another year to boost his draft stock, if he can use the last 2 games as a spring board to show NFL scouts he’s a top QB prospect. We have seen flashes of his abilities the last 2 games. I was curious what y’all think going into bowl season?
