A&M regents support adding Texas and OU

The drama around A&M opposition to this was totally overblown and maybe even a little made up. A&M Board of Regents say they will instruct their university President to vote in favor. It will be 14-0 in favor.

Resistance to Texas in the SEC

Sorry if this has already been posted - I have been out of town and am catching up on the news. Is it possible that South Carolina, Georgia and Florida join with Texas A&M to resist allowing Texas into the SEC? I have always heard that there was a gentlemen's agreement between the three schools that they would work together to block any potential admission of Clemson, FSU or Georgia Tech. I would imagine A&M's resistance to Texas would resonate with USC/UGA/UF.

The SEC needs 11 of 14 schools to approve. A four team alliance of A&M and the tree aforementioned schools could block it. My thought is Sanky will want a completely united front (14 of 14).

Thoughts?

Insider Report - July 28 - pres. by Cornerstone Financial Management - more recruiting notes

*** Mississippi linebacker Stone Blanton released a top three earlier this week that included Mississippi State (the program he's committed to for baseball), plus Texas A&M and South Carolina.

None of the included schools were a surprise; Blanton had informed us recently that those three were all slated for stops during the football season.

As we have documented, Blanton's summer official visit to South Carolina was an absolute eye-opener for him. On the heels of that trip, he stated he wanted to make his way back to Columbia to check out a game in Williams-Brice Stadium. His following through with that plan should be seen a positive for South Carolina's longevity in this recruitment.

It's certainly true that Mississippi State has some things going for it with Blanton's pledge to the baseball program in Starkville and his status as an in-state athlete. Still, South Carolina's made a big impression and will have a legitimate chance to pull him away.

*** At one time, it was thought that South Carolina would draw a visit from Missouri product Mac Markway – the cousin of former Gamecocks tight end Kyle Markway.

That did not happen, with Markway opting to focus on other programs. He ultimately committed to the Florida Gators this week.

While all the attention is on Oscar Delp in the 2022 class, some early options have emerged for the staff at the position for the '23 class, including elite athlete Nyckoles Harbor (could also play on defense), Georgia's Lawson Luckie, and Tennessee's Ty Lockwood.

The latter is thought to be extremely high on the Gamecocks after a summer visit, with Ohio State having also left a substantial impression. Harbor is, arguably, one of the most intriguing prospects in the country from the '23 class and has kept in regular communication with the staff following a summer visit to Columbia.

*** The Gamecock staff hosted 2023 defensive tackle Will Norman during one of the sessions of Shane Beamer football camp last month.

The Northeast product has transferred to IMG Academy now, and our understanding is the communication has been consistent between Norman and the Gamecock staff.

*** We checked in with 2023 quarterback target Dylan Lonergan to see if he may be making it in for the Gamecocks' prospect cookout on Saturday, but right now that does not appear to be on the docket.

Lonergan, who had a very productive visit and camp experience in Columbia in June, told GamecockCentral.com that he may check out Ole Miss this final week of the open period.

South Carolina is thought to be heavily in the running here.

*** A name that will be familiar to those that have followed Gamecock football recruiting here on GamecockCentral.com is Elijah Davis, a defensive lineman from Wagener-Salley in the Palmetto State.

In high school, Davis earned an offer from the prior staff in Columbia, but it was known that academics would send him the junior college route. Having seen Davis perform at a camp during his high school recruitment, there's indeed Power 5 potential there.

Davis is now at East Mississippi Community College and a member of the 2023 class. We can also report that this current South Carolina staff is keeping a close eye on him.

*** Virginia linebacker Tyler Banks is evidently not going to be making it in for the cookout event this weekend, but we are told that he's still eyeing a future visit to Columbia.

That will have to take place early in the season, in September, but it's still a storyline we are going to monitor. South Carolina made Banks' top 7 sight unseen, and will have a chance to move up if he eventually makes his way to campus.

*** We are continuing to keep an eye on Florida's Jaziun Patterson as a potential option in the 2022 class at running back.

Earlier in the summer, Patterson cited South Carolina, Florida State, and Penn State as the three programs he was hearing from the most.

Since then, the Nittany Lions have filled up with a pair of running back commitments. FSU has one in Georgia's Rodney Hill, and South Carolina is still assessing the market for the right fit.

Patterson was included in a large group of prospects from his high school that worked out at camp last summer in Columbia. He told us this week that he's still communicating with the Gamecock staff, too.

*** Any follow-up questions or something I didn't address that you'd like me to address? Let me know.

What’s your take on this?

Not a terribly new story. Haven’t seen if there’s been an update. Mom is upset after her daughter is spanked at school. Understandable. Buuuuuut…the mom videoed it. So she didn’t try to step in and stop it. But she’s mad that it happened.

OT Here, But Oh Lord Above Talk About Irony....

Most of you, if you even recognize my UN, most of you can prolly recall my opinion of most Police Officers.

To be blunt, I am not a fan of the vast majority of such, simply because I know a few quite well, several that I grew up with from early elementary school! Case(s) in point, one is a current sheriff of a particular county, one was previously the Commander of The S.C. Highway Patrol between 2008 and 2011, one flies helicopters at SLED at the moment, several are deputies within several NC & SC Sheriff Departments, one is the Chief of The Pageland Police Department, and then there's the one True Friend that I have ALWAYS admired, respected and ALWAYS considered a True and Honest Friend!!!

To get to point, the very one that I consider a wonderful person, a trustworthy Police Officer, and one that I wish ALL were modeled from/over, was found murdered this afternoon in Rock Hill, SC.

Though I have JUST been made aware of such, I must tell you all that I am devastated and in tears; Larry Vaughan and I pretty much grew up together, and I cannot imagine why anyone would even consider following through with such, ESPECIALLY one like Lieutenant Lawrence Starr Vaughan of The Rock Hill Police Department.

In closing, Please forgive me for being inappropriate in any way herein folks. I am simply devastated at the moment. Any prayers in regards to the family of former Lieutenant Larry Vaughan of The Rock Hill Police Department will be Gratefully Appreciated and Cherished!!

Sincerely,

Gaimcock

Jay Bilas Proposes ACC/SEC Merger

Here is his logic. In summary, since we are trending towards major conference realignment that possibly results in 2 huge power conferences, the ACC should be reaching out ASAP to attempt to merge with the SEC. The SEC is trending towards being basically minor league NFL and with the ACC merger it could also become NBA minor leagues. There are lots of existing natural rivalries that could be huge benefactors: USC/CU, UGA/Ga Tech, UF/Miami/FSU. Plus some other “rivalries” thatmake sense: USC/UNC, Va Tech/UT, CU/Bama.

I know many will reject the idea initially, but I actually like it. I haven’t really wrapped my head around it fully though. My first thought was we’d get to play Syracuse/BC and show ourselves in that new recruiting area of ours…and possibly having a few weaker teams in our division can’t hurt. Lots to consider.
